Canola oil ?!?!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] ladies and gents.

I have been reading some articles recently suggesting that canola oil makes a cheap, natural, fertility-friendly lube. Has anyone tried it? Any thoughts?

Oil based lube is a bad idea. It can trap bacteria and the like, which can lead to infections, thrush etc. I think there’s a lube specifically designed for couples TTC.

There is, it is sold at Target. It is called INGfertility Pre-Seed Personal Lubricant. It is a lot more expensive than regular, but pp is right, oil based lubricant is a bad idea. I have never purchased any of this kind, but I have only heard good things about it.

I was going to say that the oil based ones can lead to various infections.
I have also heard nothing but glowing recomendations about preseed.
I conceived my child using saliva the second month of trying, just saying…

There are fertility friendly lubricants available. I’d avoid using oils because they can cause infections. Pre Seed is very popular (especially if you’re in [name_u]America[/name_u]). I’m in Australia and we use Fore Life.

Okay, thanks ladies. It seemed sketchy to me but you never know. I will definitely just shell out the extra money for preseed next time i’m at Target.

I use PreSeed and I really like it. It feels very natural to me. I haven’t had any luck with it yet, but I have different issues that are hindering pregnancy. I hear nothing but good stuff about it! Many success stories =) its very expensive, but to me its worth it, esp when TTC.

This is what I just thought of: spitshine.mov - YouTube
Hahaha I am gross.

In all seriousness, there are a few sperm-friendly lubes out there.
Pre-seed, ConceivEase and Zestica Fertility.
There are also Yes [name_u]Baby[/name_u] & Conceive Plus brand lubes but they are probably the most expensive.

If you’re looking for a natural alternative to lubricant, I highly recommend jojoba oil. Unlike canola oil, jojoba oil is naturally antibacterial and antifungal, so it actually helps prevent bacterial and yeast infections. We’ve been using it for a year and a half with wonderful results  Jojoba oil does not affect fertility/sperm, so while it won’t cause problems if you’re TTC, it also doesn’t increase your chances of pregnancy. Neither does canola oil though, so not really sure how that rumor got started O.o

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

Interesting! I’ll have to try the jojoba oil for sure. I just bought some preseed two days ago - haven’t needed it yet but we’ll see how it goes. It is pretty expensive, and I think jojoba oil is usually pretty reasonable at natural foods stores
