Sorry this might be kinda long but here’s my situation…
SO and I have been going back and forth about names for 3 months now. He’s stuck on the same girl name that he has liked since I was pregnant almost 3 years ago (we ended up having a boy who’s now almost 2 1/2). The name he likes is [name]Alexia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. I guess I don’t mind the name but he wants to call her [name]Lexi[/name] which, to me, seems very common. I told him that name is not an option because I just don’t feel anything for it.
My main problem is I just can’t find any names that I absolutely love. You know the feeling you get when you finally find the perfect name and just know that’s the one? I can’t seem to get there.
On the other hand, his main problem is he is just so indecisive. [name]Every[/name] name I bring up, he says it’s “not bad but we can do better.” Now, just to be clear, we’re talking about a man who took over a year to pick out a new tv… I’m due [name]May[/name] 22 so we’re seriously running out of time.
Now, another main issue is the baby’s last name will be Ruff, which in itself is quite unusual.
Here are a few names we have been over just so you can kind of get our style. We both tend to lean towards more classic names that have the potential to be shortened into cute nicknames. But at this point I’m open to anything.
[name]Lucy[/name] (not [name]Lucille[/name] or anything, just lucy)
[name]Violet[/name] (the front-runner at this point but he’s still not sold)
[name]Evelyn[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name] but our son’s name is [name]Avery[/name] which sounds to similar)
[name]Avalon[/name] (nn [name]Ava[/name] but also too similar to [name]Avery[/name] )
[name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Charlie[/name])
I don’t want anything real popular or “trendy” and would welcome any middle name suggestions as well. Thank you so much!!!
I know exactly the boat you’re in! I love your list-here are some more suggestions:
[name]Lucy[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this name. Since you like nicknames and the “[name]Lu[/name]” sound what about [name]Louisa[/name] or [name]Tallula[/name] and calling her [name]Lulu[/name]?
[name]Violet[/name]-This is on our list too! There’s the Nameberry favorite [name]Calla[/name], which has a similar feel…[name]Alice[/name] or [name]Isadora[/name] ([name]Izzie[/name]? [name]Dora[/name]?) might work too…
[name]Evelyn[/name]-[name]Eden[/name]?
[name]Avalon[/name]- Avonlea, and you could call her [name]Lea[/name]?
[name]Charlotte[/name]-[name]Love[/name] this too! You could get to [name]Charlie[/name] from [name]Carlotta[/name] as well! [name]Caroline[/name] has a similar classic vibe.
I definately think [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Avalon[/name] are way too similar to [name]Avery[/name]… Though [name]Avalon[/name] would be gorgeous in the middle spot! I think [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] are very cute!! Or how about [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Luna[/name]? I like combos [name]Luna[/name] [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Luna[/name] [name]Avalon[/name]… I also like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Avalon[/name]…[name]Charlotte[/name] is very pretty but I dont like it so much with [name]Avery[/name]…
Other thoughts…
[name]Avery[/name] and…
[name]Rebecca[/name] ([name]Becky[/name], [name]Bec[/name], [name]Becca[/name])
[name]Pearl[/name]… [name]Pearl[/name] [name]Avalon[/name] is gorgeous
[name]Valentine[/name]/[name]Valentina[/name] ([name]Leni[/name])
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Lizzy[/name],zippy, [name]Betty[/name],[name]Eliza[/name])
[name]Eliza[/name]… As a stand alone name…nn [name]Ellie[/name] if you like…
[name]Lavender[/name]… [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Lavender[/name] would be adorable… I love [name]Lavender[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]!
[name]Lavinia[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]/[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Veda[/name]
[name]Vida[/name]
I really like the sound of a name with a ‘v’ sound with [name]Avery[/name]
Eg [name]Violet[/name], [name]Valentine[/name], [name]Clover[/name], [name]Lavender[/name], [name]Veda[/name]!
Cute list! I love the nickname [name]Charlie[/name] for [name]Charlotte[/name] too. I think, with the exception of [name]Avalon[/name], that the names on your list are all fairly popular at the moment but not necessarily “trendy” (they’re classic names that will be around for a long time).
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Grace[/name] might be my choices.
Maybe you could consider:
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name] (nn [name]Rosie[/name])
[name]Harriet[/name] (nn [name]Hattie[/name])
[name]Tabitha[/name] (nn Bitsy or Tib)
[name]Edith[/name] (nn [name]Edie[/name])
[name]Florence[/name] (nn [name]Flora[/name])
[name]Dorothea[/name] (nn [name]Dottie[/name])
[name]Louise[/name] (nn [name]Lou[/name])
[name]Eleanor[/name] is my personal favorite classic name. The name it’s self sounds lovely but there are tons of nickname options. [name]Nora[/name], [name]Norrie[/name], [name]Nell[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Elle[/name], and [name]Ella[/name]. Which I love, because my daughter then can pick her own preference of nickname as she gets older.
Have you looked into naming her after family members? Check out your family trees, think of relatives you really look/looked up to, or just a name that you think should stay in the family. Instead of looking for classic names that can be shortened, look for names that mean something to you. What I’ve found (in my fictional-character naming adventures) is that the perfect name normally has more to do with what’s behind it than what it is.

I do like the nn [name]Charlie[/name] for a little girl, but I don’t think it fits well with big brother [name]Avery[/name]. Nieither do [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Avalon[/name], or [name]Alexia[/name]/[name]Lexi[/name]. I think [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]/[name]Violet[/name] do sound great though! Best of luck!
[name]Lucy[/name] - Gorgeous, I love this.
[name]Violet[/name] - I’m probably one of the few berries who just doesn’t see any appeal in this name.
[name]Evelyn[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name] but our son’s name is [name]Avery[/name] which sounds to similar) - [name]Evelyn[/name]'s alright, don’t like [name]Evie[/name]. Agree it’s too close to [name]Avery[/name].
[name]Avalon[/name] (nn [name]Ava[/name] but also too similar to [name]Avery[/name] ) - Definitely too close
[name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Charlie[/name]) - [name]Charlotte[/name]'s lovely but with sibs [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] be prepared for people to think [name]Charlie[/name]'s the boy and [name]Avery[/name]'s the girl. NN [name]Lottie[/name] could be a better option if you like that.
With a son with a unisex name, I’d give a daughter a feminine name.
Other names you might like, going on ‘classic with cute nicknames’:
[name]Ellen[/name]/[name]Eleanor[/name] (potential nicknames [name]Elle[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Leni[/name], [name]Nora[/name])
[name]Rachel[/name] ([name]Rae[/name], Chelly)
[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name] ([name]Lou[/name], [name]Lulu[/name])
[name]Victoria[/name] ([name]Vicky[/name], [name]Tori[/name], [name]Ria[/name])
[name]Elizabeth[/name] (well, there’s a ton of options here)
[name]Katherine[/name] ([name]Katie[/name], [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Kat[/name], [name]Kathy[/name])
[name]Anna[/name] ([name]Annie[/name]) - or a longer [name]Ann[/name]- name such as [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Annaliese[/name] etc if that’s more your style
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Milly[/name], [name]Mia[/name])
[name]Jessica[/name] ([name]Jessie[/name])
[name]Georgina[/name] ([name]Georgie[/name], [name]Gina[/name])
