We have our first girl due in a couple of weeks and have two names picked out but are having trouble settling on one! Our last name is Slavic/Polish so we wanted to use a first name with Slavic roots. We like [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] (nn: [name_f]Lina[/name_f]) and [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]. Our last name is longer (3 syllables) so I don’t know if [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] would be a mouthful. Both have beautiful meanings ([name_f]Adelina[/name_f] - [name_m]Noble[/name_m], [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] - [name_f]Hope[/name_f]). Middle name for either would be [name_f]Grace[/name_f].
I personally like [name_f]Adelina[/name_f]! Since you have a one syllable middle name for her, that breaks it up a bit and makes it not quite such a mouthful. [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is also really pretty, though.
I think either name would be a great choice but I would go with [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], only because [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] may default to [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and there are soooo many little Addies in the playground. Names don’t always get shortened to a nickname and that may not bother you and it it may also depend on where you live?
[name_f]Adelina[/name_f]! It’s very sweet and happy-sounding.
I get the appeal of [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], and nickname [name_f]Dia[/name_f] is adorable, but it’s always just made me think of middle-aged Russian women.
I adore both names, so it’s hard to choose, but I think [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] might work best here. I think it balances nicely with [name_f]Grace[/name_f], because one is sparkling and upbeat while the other is subtle and grounded.
I think both are great options! [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] sounds a bit more “current” to me and seems to share sounds with more popular names ([name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] etc) while being unique at the same time. [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is a lovely name too and is familiar yet not common. In comparison, [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] feels bright and happy to me whereas [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] sounds a bit more sultry and mysterious. You can’t really go wrong here, but I think [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] edges out [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] for my personal preference.
I like [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. I do not like names in the [name_f]Ada[/name_f] family. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] they sound too harsh.
