My son is due in 3 months and can’t pin down a name. Here is some background info, I don’t want anything popular. My last name is [name]Ervin[/name], so I would want it to sound good with that. He will have an older sister [name]Ada[/name]. Here are a few I’m considering:
[name]Abel[/name] (I like, wife doesn’t)
[name]Abner[/name] ( I like, wife doesn’t)
[name]Boone[/name] (wife likes, i’m ok with it)
[name]Kane[/name] ( wife not crazy about it, I like it, my middle name is McKane)
[name]Mack[/name] (we are both so-so on this one, family name, would use [name]Kane[/name] as middle name)
[name]Ollie[/name] (we both like, but afraid the name [name]Oliver[/name] will make this nickname too popular)
I also like old baseball names, like [name]Abner[/name] (Doubleday, the man credited with inventing baseball) above. [name]Satchel[/name], [name]Cap[/name], Wrigley are some I like.
I also really like the name [name]Stonewall[/name], the wife is even thinking of letting me use as a middle name.
What does everyone think? I need help! Any other suggestions?
I really like [name]Stonewall[/name] as a middle name. I’d say that’s a keeper.
Of your names - [name]Abel[/name] and [name]Ada[/name] seem kind of matchy to me with the sounds. I like [name]Abner[/name], [name]Boone[/name], [name]Mack[/name] and [name]Ollie[/name] (my favorite would probably be [name]Abner[/name]), but I’m not a huge fan of [name]Kane[/name]. Here are some ideas:
I like [name]Abel[/name] [name]Stonewall[/name] and [name]Ulysses[/name] [name]Stonewall[/name].
[name]Just[/name] a question: how are you pronouncing [name]Abel[/name]? Because I have heard it pronounced as Uh-[name]Bell[/name] and [name]Able[/name], of which I prefer Uh-[name]Bell[/name].
Good luck!
I really love [name]Stonewall[/name] as a middle name for you, that said, I think most of the first names you suggested make it very surnamey. I would almost be tempted to think the little boy’s name was [name]Ervin[/name] [name]Kane[/name] rather than [name]Kane[/name] [name]Ervin[/name], for example (although I love that [name]Kane[/name] honors you!).
I’m also a little leery of [name]Abner[/name] and [name]Elmer[/name] because the -er ending is right up against the Er- beginning of your ln. It’s not too obvious, so if it doesn’t bother you just disregard. That said, I like [name]Abel[/name] the best.
Some baseball names I found in the [name]Hall[/name] of Fame:
[name]Hank[/name] (love this for you!)
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]Louie[/name]
[name]Wade[/name]
[name]Ford[/name]
[name]Leon[/name]
[name]Clark[/name]
[name]Barney[/name]
[name]Amos[/name] (less matchy with [name]Ada[/name] than [name]Abel[/name], love for you)
[name]Gus[/name]
I like [name]Abel[/name]. Not a fan of [name]Abner[/name], [name]Ulysses[/name], or [name]Elmer[/name], just not my style. [name]Abner[/name] reminds me of a pig. I love that you like baseball names though!
Here in the UK, [name]Stonewall[/name] is the national gay rights movement, which is really cool, so long as you are aware.
I love [name]Oliver[/name]/[name]Ollie[/name], but it’s been #1 for too long.
[name]Satchel[/name] is just the cutest name!!
It sounds like [name]Abel[/name] [name]Stonewall[/name] [name]Ervin[/name] is a hit with most, as long as we don’t think it sounds too similar to sister [name]Ada[/name].
rachel27, of the names on your list, I would consider [name]Amos[/name], but doubt it flies with wife.
greyer, again like [name]Amos[/name], wife had [name]Clark[/name] on her list.
Kynleigh88, we both looked at [name]Cy[/name], don’t really know why we didn’t pursue it, I got the name [name]Cap[/name] from [name]Cap[/name] [name]Anson[/name].
jollins-I really like [name]Satchel[/name] also, I was surprised it was considered a real name, I searched it on nameberry and it said that [name]Spike[/name] [name]Lee[/name] and [name]Woody[/name] [name]Allen[/name] named there sons that. [name]Just[/name] can’t pull the trigger on it, it says not for non celebrity use. That is some very good info on the [name]Stonewall[/name] name, I had no idea, of course the reason I like it is from [name]General[/name] [name]Stonewall[/name] [name]Jackson[/name] from the Civil War. We live in the US so that probably won’t come up.
oddcreature-I must be out of it, what is the SAMCRO connection with [name]Abel[/name]?
Thanks again everyone, if anyone has any additional feedback, keep it coming. It really helps.
I really like [name]Able[/name] and [name]Boone[/name] with [name]Ada[/name]. I also love the suggestion of [name]Archie[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Archer[/name]?
I know you said [name]Kane[/name] was from your middle name, but what is the reason you like [name]Abel[/name]? Is it the Biblical reference? I’d suggest [name]Seth[/name]. Or do you like the old fashion A names: [name]Albert[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Abraham[/name] (civil war and bible reference). I was just wondering to help you find a similar feeling name that your wife would like.
[name]Do[/name] you have a favorite team?
Other baseball suggestions:
[name]Al[/name] (Kaline…sorry I’m a Tigers fan)
[name]Cal[/name]
[name]Casey[/name]
[name]Cobb[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] ([name]Jackie[/name] [name]Robinson[/name] and [name]Stonewall[/name] [name]Jackson[/name])
[name]Lou[/name]
[name]Mickey[/name]
[name]Pete[/name]
[name]Reese[/name]
[name]Reggie[/name]
[name]Roger[/name]
I like [name]Mac[/name] a lot too, but why not just use McKane instead of [name]Mac[/name] [name]Kane[/name] [name]Ervin[/name]?
Also I think [name]Satchel[/name] would be fine to use in real life (not just in Hollywood). If it has meaning to you then go for it.
[name]Cap[/name] on the other hand feels a little to much like a nickname to be taken seriously (unless he actually becomes a ball player). [name]Campbell[/name], or [name]Casper[/name] could get you the nickname [name]Cap[/name].
Personally I’m not really a fan of [name]Abel[/name]. I like [name]Abner[/name] though. When I was at the [name]Hall[/name] of Fame it was [name]Abner[/name] and [name]Abbott[/name] that really stuck out for me.
