Can't find "THE name"...suggestions?

Okay…so my sons name is [name_m]Trent[/name_m]. I love it. I knew it was “the name” without a shadow of a doubt and it still makes my heart skip a beat. I cannot find a girl name that I feel the same way about! I do have another boy name that I feel as passionately about, however. Any suggestions for girl?

I thought it would maybe be helpful to list the reasons why I love [name_m]Trent[/name_m] to help me find its girl equivalent:

  • It’s not weird but it’s rare (we meet maybe one a year? He has never had another in his class or on his team)

  • it’s not trendy or upcoming/on the rise.

  • Everyone knows how to spell it.

  • No one ever says “huh?”

  • Its cool, timeless, simple, and strong.

I have some girl name ideas which I don’t want to list because I want your feedback first. Nothing really stands out and sells me, anyway.

Sorry I can’t help, we’re facing the exact same situation here: fell in love with son’s name for the same reasons you fell in love with [name_m]Trent[/name_m]. Now we need a girl name and all we can find are some “yeah, that’s OK” names. I wish you to “zing” with one of your name ideas soon ! Good luck !

What’s your sons name? Maybe I can help. It’s so hard!

What about

[name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]
[name_f]Fay[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]

So, you are looking for names that are recognizable but rare and easy to spell?

[name_f]Cora[/name_f] / [name_f]Coral[/name_f] is the first thing that comes to mind.
I also like [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] / [name_f]Clio[/name_f].
Or maybe one of these short and sweet names:
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] / [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] / [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Elka[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]

[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]

I like those. Probably laurel the best but I feel like people will confuse it with [name_f]Laura[/name_f].

I’m in the same boat - I have 3 boys and had no problem choosing their names ([name_u]Jace[/name_u] Graeson, [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_m]Cash[/name_m] - we call him [name_m]Cash[/name_m] - and [name_u]Cade[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]). I just found out I’m expecting baby #4 ~ we came up with 2 boy names we love that compliment our other boys’ names but I cannot come up with a girl name I love. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is my favorite girl name, [name_u]EVER[/name_u], but it’s growing in popularity so quickly and I don’t want a “common” name. Plus, one of my really good friends is having a baby next month (they don’t know the sex) and that’s her girl name. My husband has vetoed every name I’ve suggested…I know we have plenty of time but I’m a “planner” and like to have a name locked down.

I like [name_m]Trent[/name_m] too. A lot.
Name: easy to spell, non-trendy, strong, unique but not weird:

[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

[name_u]Joyce[/name_u]…that’s one I hadnot considered. I was thinking [name_f]Joy[/name_f], but [name_u]Joyce[/name_u] is nice!

Thanks ! My son’s name is [name_f]Edin[/name_f] (after Edinburgh). I’d be very happy to hear new suggestions for his little sister’s name !

I agree, short, simple, not too common, and meaningfull as well. My second choice would be [name_u]Ever[/name_u] or [name_u]Everly[/name_u].

So glad I’m not he only one. [name_u]Love[/name_u] your boy names. We have he same style! And I wouldnt go for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]'s for the same reason of becoming trendy so I get you. Hopefully we have boys lol. But u probably would like a girl this time around if you only had a name!

[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Gretchen[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Macy[/name_f]

Does Edinburgh have meaning to you?

If you wanted to stick with European city names, ONE of the names I kind of liked for a heartbeat was [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] because I studied there (Spain). Nickname [name_f]Leni[/name_f]. Ok, I still like it but actually think I like [name_f]Leni[/name_f] more than [name_f]Valencia[/name_f].

I came back to suggest [name_f]Joy[/name_f], but it looks like you already beat me to it!
Other names I thought of for you are:
[name_f]Melody[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Amy[/name_f]

Hm, I have a similar problem, I have a few boys names I love, but girls names I have such a hard time with, so I might not be the biggest help.

Based on what you’ve said, I’d suggest:
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_u]Joan[/name_u]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]

Hopefully you find something you like or at least get a jumping off point.

  • It’s not weird but it’s rare (we meet maybe one a year? He has never had another in his class or on his team)

  • it’s not trendy or upcoming/on the rise.

I totally understand. My son’s name is [name_m]Todd[/name_m] and he told me he thinks he might be the last boy ever named [name_m]Todd[/name_m]. I chose it for all the reasons you did. So maybe you’ll like a name or two that I do:

[name_f]Nell[/name_f] (could be [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f])
