Can't Get Excited About Any Boys' Names

Hello! I’m 14 weeks along and trying to think of boys’ names that I can get excited about. I like all the names in my signature but I just can’t find any that I [name]LOVE[/name]. Neither can my husband. We have plenty of girl name combos that we adore! We will be finding out the sex in [name]January[/name] and for some reason, I’m getting boy vibes. Of course, I’ll be happy with a healthy baby of either gender but I would love to feel more excited about naming a boy.

We both tend to like more traditional names for boys. Our last name is one syllable and begins with T although we aren’t opposed to a one-syllable first names. Here are some name combos we both like:

[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Simon[/name] [name]Gregory[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]

Names that I like that hubby has rejected:
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]

Names that husband liked that I said no to:
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]

Any suggestions? If anyone can help us find name to love, it’s the Berries!

[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] - my favorite name out of your list! [name]Ben[/name] is such a cute nickname. [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] flows nicely.
[name]Simon[/name] [name]Gregory[/name] - I don’t really like [name]Gregory[/name], something about it throws me off.
[name]James[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] - I like this too! [name]James[/name] will always be in style.

[name]Caleb[/name] - Getting really popular, [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Gabriel[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this, especially if you’re [name]Christian[/name]. It has a good connotation to me.
[name]Archer[/name] - Not my favorite, I tend to like classics.

[name]Jacob[/name] - Too popular, he would always have to go by [name]Jacob[/name] T.
[name]Henry[/name] - I like this one, b ut it seems too trendy.

My suggestions would be
[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]

[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Francis[/name]
[name]Frank[/name]

[name]George[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]John[/name]
[name]Jonathan[/name]
[name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]Mark[/name]
[name]Martin[/name]
[name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Michael[/name]

[name]Timothy[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Zachary[/name]

I hope this helps! Congratulations!!

[name]Shannon[/name],

Thanks for the suggestions! I have to admit, I do love [name]William[/name] (and I see you do too)…but not any of the nicknames.

I wonder if that my problem for many traditional boys’ names. I love the full name but nicknames that usually go with them are just ugh…([name]Jame[/name] = [name]Jim[/name], [name]Jimmy[/name], [name]William[/name] = [name]Bill[/name], [name]Billy[/name], [name]Will[/name], [name]Francis[/name] = [name]Frank[/name], etc). Hearing names like [name]Jim[/name], [name]Frank[/name], [name]Bob[/name], [name]Steve[/name] and [name]Mike[/name] just grate on my ear even though I think [name]James[/name], [name]Francis[/name], [name]Robert[/name], [name]Steven[/name] and [name]Michael[/name] are lovely.

I guess we could insist on the full name. My husband is a [name]Patrick[/name] NOT a [name]Pat[/name] and people still shorten his name even when he introduces himself as [name]Patrick[/name]. Sigh.

[name]James[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] is my favorite from your list. I recently started liking both those names, whereas before I never cared for them. I was considering [name]Asher[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]James[/name] for my boys list, but now I have [name]Asher[/name] [name]Morgan[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Lane[/name] [name]Everett[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] on my list. [name]Do[/name] you care for any of those names?

[name]Lane[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]

I am in the same boat. I am due in [name]June[/name]–we hope to find out the gender in a few weeks, and there are really NO boys that I love right now. The only name the the husband and I have agreed on is [name]Finnegan[/name]- nn [name]Finn[/name]. I like it–but I’m not totally crazy about it. There are some good suggestions here from other members. Good luck to you!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Kate[/name]! I’m also a [name]Kate[/name]! I have always loved [name]Jack[/name]. It’s probably because I’m vain about my own name though. I think [name]Jack[/name] is sort of like the male version of [name]Kate[/name]: sporting, strong, short, modern, fun, classic. And it doesn’t have any unfortunate nicknames.

I like classic names too and I think that it is unlikely that if you name a boy [name]William[/name] that people will call him [name]Bill[/name]. They will call him whatever nickname you give him. Those old nicknames are so unnatural because they were changing letters and sounds. The nicknames that are just the first syllable, on the other hand, are bound to happen at least some of the time. A fun nickname for [name]James[/name] is [name]Jem[/name], and then no one would bring up [name]Jim[/name].

[name]William[/name] doesn’t always get shortened. There’s a boy at my school who just goes by [name]William[/name]

Thanks for the all the suggestions, Berries! My husband and I decided that we’re going to stick with classic first names that have nicknames we can like as well. So, [name]James[/name] has been moved to the MN spot, as it is a family name. [name]Gabriel[/name] is also back on the list! [name]Alexander[/name] has also made an appearance since we both like [name]Alex[/name] and it’s a nod to my Scottish family background. Here is our short list:

[name]Benjamin[/name] nn [name]Ben[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name] nn [name]Gabe[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] nn [name]Alex[/name]
[name]William[/name] nn [name]Liam[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name] nn [name]Tom[/name]

Again, thank you so much for helping us out!

I am in the same boat, not excited about any of our names. [name]Ben[/name] is my favorite and also in my top 5. It’s funny I just started looking at [name]Gabriel[/name] nn [name]Gabe[/name]. I really like it too. I live [name]Joseph[/name] and [name]Samuel[/name] as well but can’t use it, have you considered those? Ps I also second pp suggestion [name]Jack[/name], my absolute fave !!!

[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is my favourite from the combo’s you both like, but it is very traditional which isn’t my style.

[name]Simon[/name] is a middle aged man’s name here in the UK and all I picture is [name]Simon[/name] Cowell. [name]James[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] is nice enough but I find [name]James[/name] so dull. [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]James[/name] would be gorgeous, would you consider that?

I love a lot of the names that one of you had rejected; [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Henry[/name].

Other ideas…
[name]Luca[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Silas[/name] [name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Finn[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Samson[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name] [name]Grant[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name] [name]Cole[/name]
[name]Wesley[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Blake[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Jenson[/name] [name]William[/name]

I’m in the same boat. Due in February and just can not find any boy’s name that excites us. I feel your pain.

My first thought for you was [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]James[/name]. I’m also a fan of [name]Gabriel[/name].
Good luck!
