Carlile: Yes/No? [name]Male[/name]/Female? First/Middle? Thoughts? Opinions? Nicknames? Thanks
I like it if there’s a family tie to it, but otherwise I’m not wild about it. I don’t like the sound of most Car- names and I’m not wild about the sound of [name]Lyle[/name]. That said, there’s nothing really wrong with it - it would grow on me if I knew a kid with the name - just not my taste.
So no as a first without family tie, but sure as a middle. I think for middle either gender. Either gender too for first if there’s meaning. I like it better on boys generally. [name]Carl[/name] and [name]Lyle[/name] as nn’s for a boy and [name]Lila[/name] for a girl.
Oh and maybe [name]Carli[/name] for a girl.
I love it for either gender! It sounds very soft, but strong. I like the [name]Carlisle[/name] spelling best. [name]Isla[/name] / [name]Ila[/name], Isley / Iley (eye-la, eye-lee) for a girl are the only other nns I can think of.
I prefer the [name]Carlisle[/name] spelling. I do not find it feminine at all. The “[name]Carl[/name]” part is so dominant, and that makes the name read old man to my ears. It is nice in full, and all of the nicknames I could think of would only be a downgrade.
