Carlisle is too 'Twilight', isn't it?

I prefer it over just [name]Lyle[/name], but think the connection is too strong. Thoughts?

I don’t think it is at all.
It’s a lovely name and only fans would even recognize the connection.
It’s not [name]Renesmee[/name]

No, I don’t think it’s too much of a Twilight connection.

I think it’s just fine, honestly. I like it a lot.

I feel like unless you are planning to use it tomorrow, it will soon be able to stand on it’s own again. In other words, it isn’t going to be associated with Twilight forever. Since the last movie just came out, I would expect the hype around that series to die down pretty quickly. So yes, though there is a character with the name [name]Carlisle[/name], it is still a name that was around way before the series and will continue to be used in the future without Twilight being the only reference it has. If you love the name then I’d say use it, and soon your friends and family will come to associate it almost exclusively with you little one. =]

Since the last movie just came out, I would expect the hype around that series to die down pretty quickly. It is a name that has been along way before the series existed and in any case, he wasn’t a major character anyway. So yes, there is a Twilight character by the name of [name]Carlisle[/name], but it will certainly continue to be used in the future without that being the only reference. If you love the name then I’d say use it, and soon your friends and family will come to associate it almost exclusively with your child. In other words, it isn’t going to be tied to Twilight forever. =]

I don’t think it’s as commonly used as [name]Edward[/name] or [name]Jacob[/name]. It’s useable. I think [name]Carlisle[/name] is a handsome name.

[name]Carlisle[/name] is definitely not too Twilight. It was a name long before [name]Stephenie[/name] [name]Meyer[/name] ever touched a keyboard.

I love [name]Carlisle[/name] and I was worried about that too. However, I decided that since I’m not naming a child for a while it probably won’t matter much anymore. I also [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Esme[/name], [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name] and just figure when my kid is old enough for his friends to be reading the books something new will have come out. [name]Stephanie[/name] Meyers is not ruining a beautiful name like [name]Carlisle[/name] for me.

As an outsider to the whole Twilight thing, I had no idea there was a connection. I’m aware of the main character names, but I think a lot of people wouldn’t know there was a [name]Carlisle[/name] character without being told.

I think it’s fine, however, I’d spell it [name]Carlyle[/name] for security since you like [name]Lyle[/name].

The only Twilight names that I’d say are too tied to the series are the ones you don’t ever hear, like Sulpicia, or [name]Renesmee[/name] (which should not [name]EVER[/name] be used on a real child, [name]IMO[/name]). And this is from someone who is an admitted fan of the series.

I think its not too Twilighty. It is a beautiful name! It is not a name that would make me say “AHA TWILIGHT!!” Maybe if you pointed it out.

I love [name]Carlisle[/name] as a boy name. I also love [name]Esme[/name] for a girl name! I love this whole “Twilight ruining names” thing, as I think [name]Stephanie[/name] Meyers strong suit isn’t writing but in naming! That lady has great taste in names, and if anything, she helped bring underused name back into the spotlight they deserve! [name]Carlisle[/name] is only one of those!

Exactly!!

Honestly, I don’t get this whole idea of names being ‘ruined’ by books or movies. I only just found out from another thread that [name]Rosalie[/name] is supposedly a ‘Twilight’ name. What the…?

I have never read/watched Twilight/[name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]/Fifty Shades of [name]Gray[/name]/Glee/ most of the other pop culture books/shows that people keep saying have ruined these classic names. And I am under 40 and don’t dwell under a rock or anything. ;-). I’m just a bit baffled by the idea that it’s a big deal, really.

[name]Carlisle[/name] is a place (a city in the north of [name]England[/name]) and a surname. Not a first name in any format in my opinion, sorry.
