Carly as nn for Charlotte

If we end up having a girl someday, my husband LOVES the name [name]Charlotte[/name]. I love it too, I think it’s a beautiful name…but I cannot get past the popularity! I get twitchy if I look at names in the top 100, and [name]Charlotte[/name] is probably going to hit top 10 soon.

However, I do love the name [name]Carly[/name]. I think it’s such a sweet and spunky name for a little girl. Could [name]Carly[/name] work as a nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name]. Is it stretching too far?

Well, it’s normally [name]Charlie[/name] from [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Carly[/name] from [name]Caroline[/name], but there’s nothing wrong with getting [name]Carly[/name] from [name]Charlotte[/name], you’re just effectively dropping the H in nn [name]Charlie[/name] to get nn [name]Carly[/name]. A bit unorthodox but not completely out there, definitely workable [name]IMO[/name].

babynamewizard.com lists [name]Cara[/name] as an established nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name] and I think if [name]Cara[/name] works, why not [name]Carly[/name]? I love [name]Carly[/name], I say go for it. :slight_smile:

I think [name]Charlotte[/name] NN [name]Carly[/name] works just fine! It is so much more feminine than the typical [name]Charlie[/name]. They are bot female variations of [name]Charles[/name] so I think it makes a lovely choice :slight_smile:

[name]Charlotte[/name] --> [name]Charles[/name] --> [name]Carlo[/name]/[name]Carlos[/name] --> [name]Carly[/name]

Not much of a stretch.

I absolutely think [name]Carly[/name] would work as a nick name for [name]Charlotte[/name]! Its not honestly one I’d use, but it works. Its not too far off from [name]Charlotte[/name] when you say them out loud / look at them. I prefer [name]Charlie[/name] or [name]Lottie[/name], but I’m sure those are going to get popular.
