Would [name_f]Callie[/name_f] be a stretch as a nickname to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]?
Originally I had loved [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], but I had to make a decision on which name would stay and which one I would put aside. I chose [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] because I loved the full name and I only liked [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for the nickname [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. I now have this problem where I don’t like [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] or [name_u]Caro[/name_u], but I do like [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. I’m worried that it might be a stretch though. I also like [name_f]Ro[/name_f], but plan to use that or [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] for [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. Having sisters nicknamed [name_f]Ro[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] would be very confusing.
I teach high school and have to say that a girl named [name_f]Ro[/name_f] would be teased and bullied mercilessly.
RoHO.
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] is a fine nickname for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], but parents have little if any control over what nicknames their kids choose or are called.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Callie[/name_f] totally works. I’ve also heard [name_f]Carly[/name_f], [name_u]Caro[/name_u], [name_m]Arrow[/name_m], and even [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] as nicknames for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. It’s a lovely name.
@leslie - LOL I know a girl who has spent her whole life being nicknamed “[name_f]Ro[/name_f]” (for [name_f]Rosaria[/name_f]) and nobody has once bullied her (and certainly not “mercilessly”). You must either teach at the world’s meanest school, have a very skewed view of kid behavior, or both.
@ikfly - if you want it to be less of a stretch, why not choose a middle that starts with the “[name_u]Lee[/name_u]” sound? [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] or something? Also I love both your name choices.
My mother is friedns with a [name_f]Ro[/name_f] ([name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]) and she was never teased either.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is already set. I just found out that [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is actually a diminutive for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] so it seems like it works. I happy because I really love the name.
[name_f]Ro[/name_f]? Huh? Maybe a cornrow connection? Row your boat? Robot? Can’t think of anything that’s not sort of innocuous and not really any worse than most names.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is fine. [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] and [name_u]Caro[/name_u] are more intuitive and might happen, but you can make [name_f]Callie[/name_f] stick.
I went to school with a [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] who was always called [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. Makes perfect sense to me! I don’t think it’s a stretch at all.
I also like [name_u]Caro[/name_u], and I think that [name_f]Ro[/name_f] is cute and absolutely would not automatically be “teased mercilessly.” I think forums like this often overstate teasing potential.
Not a stretch at all, I know a [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] who is [name_f]Callie[/name_f], it’s a perfectly logical nickname for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
