Im posting for a friend as she came to me with her baby name and we are curious what the outlook may be. My friend is expecting a girl and has always wanted the name Charlotte (not making this up, she’s one of those who picked their baby’s name as a teen lol). But the father has a 7 year old named Caroline (!). Is that a cringy sib set? I know the names are both derived from the same name and a bit themey maybe? Yet…they dont really sound the same (ie Andrew and Andrea). I dunno…yay or nay? It just got us wondering what most people thought. Cute or Cringy? Both are classic…but is the feel too similar?

I think it’s okay, though both are feminine versions of the name [name_u]Charles[/name_u].

I am a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and i dont think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is too samey. Id go for it.

I think it’s fine. They sound different enough from each other and the average person wouldn’t even realize the connection between the names.

I think it’s fine, it’s not like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f] or [name_f]Carole[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. They’re different enough.

I actually know a girl sibset of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]!
Their meanings may be similar, but your average non-name nerd wouldn’t know that. They sound very different to me and don’t feel too close at all.

It would bother me, personally, because I’m into names, but a lot of people wouldn’t know they have the same origin, they sound different enough and it could actually form a cute connection between them? It’s fine

I like it! I don’t think they feel too similar. I have a friend [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with an auntie [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] :slight_smile: one of Charlotte’s middle names is also [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] haha

I think it’s totally fine! Sharing a root name wouldn’t matter to 99% of people.

Most people will never make the connection that both names come from [name_u]Charles[/name_u]. They sound different enough. It’s fine.

As long as she doesn’t mind the uber popularity of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (if in the US) then I think the pair is fine!
