Carrying over into adulthood?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!

[name_f]My[/name_f] third son was born on the 4th of [name_f]July[/name_f] and we named him [name_m]Wayland[/name_m] [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. We have been dead set and madly in love with the name for ages now. When we announced his name we only got positive comments (except from my mother-in-law of course).

Recently, though, a woman sitting on the park bench with me told me that he was going to want to change his name when he was an adult because it was “unprofessional”.

Is [name_m]Wayland[/name_m] unprofessional?

What are your ideas of names that carry over well into adulthood?

Thanks, and have a great day!

[name_m]Wayland[/name_m] is certainly unusual, but I don’t think it’s unprofessional. And if he doesn’t like it when he grows up, he can go by [name_m]Luke[/name_m].

I don’t think it’s unprofessional at all. Uncommon, yes, but unprofessional? No way!

I agree with the others!

Oh, please. It’s not my style, but I wouldn’t think anything of meeting a baby [name_m]Wayland[/name_m]. If anything, I’d pin “unprofessional” on some of the U-Neeq creations of late.

She’s a stranger who decided your baby’s name was her business for no particular reason. Give her opinion the credit it deserves. Honestly, unless you decide on something so traditional that it’s been done since before we drank tea and paid taxes to the [name_m]King[/name_m] - [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], etc. - I don’t know that there are any names absolutely guaranteed to age well because styles are likely to be drastically different in forty years. Heck, even in TEN years.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] go with your heart and don’t worry too much about it.

[name_m]Wayland[/name_m] is so cool and I can easily picture it on a person of any age. Not at all unprofessional.

[name_m]Wayland[/name_m] is awesome and not unprofessional at all! If he’s really having a problem, which I don’t foresee in the least, he can always go by W. [name_m]Luke[/name_m] ______ on his resume. Tons of people do it. You picked a great name, don’t worry!
