What are your thoughts on those names?
All very different:
[name]Carter[/name]: rough-and-tumble, modern but not too sleek or contemporary, rather earthy name. I like it.
[name]Jacob[/name]: as a full name, I find it a bit stuffy. [name]Jake[/name] feels approachable and relaxed, but also a bit like a 2000s prom king to me.
[name]Maximus[/name]: trying too hard [name]IMO[/name] and potentially prone to a high school or college nickname of Maxipad (I know a guy to whom that happened; it was done in a loving, fraternity teasing manner, but still doesn’t seem ideal to me…). [name]Max[/name] is sweet, though.
[name]Carter[/name]: likeable, modern/trendy, not overused, masculine
[name]Jacob[/name]: handsome but way overused
[name]Maximus[/name]: My favorite on your list. Almost named my son [name]Maximus[/name]. My favorite long form of [name]Max[/name]. [name]Love[/name] how masculine and strong it is. Probably would be weary of using if there was a likely chance I would have a small, wimpy son. Fortunately, my hubby’s family all average about 6’2" to 6’6" so I would have no problem using it. We are leaning towards [name]Magnus[/name] instead if our next is a boy.
[name]Carter[/name] is on my list, it’s one of the surname-names that I actually like. [name]Jacob[/name] is really growing on me, still not sure how I feel about [name]Jake[/name] though, I also like [name]Jakub[/name] pronounce jack-kub instead of jay-kub. [name]Maximus[/name] sounds rediculous, it’s something you’d name a pet, not a child. On an animal it is pretty fab, on a baby/child/adult, not so much. It’s also the name of the horse in the Disney animated film Tangled. 
I like [name]Jacob[/name] but I know many and hear the name often. I have liked [name]Carter[/name] since I was a teenager (which was not recently ;)). I really like [name]Maximus[/name].
[name]Carter[/name]- Modern, crisp, and preppy, but not obnoxiously so.
[name]Jacob[/name]- Classic, rugged. Popular but still good.
[name]Maximus[/name]- Seems pornstar-ish to me, sorry.
Definitely [name]Maximus[/name]. It works great for my little guy.
[name]Carter[/name] is ok. Not a big fan. I dislike [name]Jacob[/name], too popular and boring.
[name]Carter[/name] - I’m not a fan of this or surnames as firsts but it’s one of the better one though.
[name]Jacob[/name] - I have [name]Jacob[/name] [name]Tristan[/name] on my list so it’s one of my favourites.
[name]Maximus[/name] - Reminds be of the horse in Tangled. I don’t really like it that much because it’s a little posh.
