The nickname “[name_u]Chris[/name_u]” for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] is so strong that it hard to imagine [name_m]Cash[/name_m] overpowering it out in the long run. I personally love the nod to [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] [name_m]Cash[/name_m], but unfortunately it feels more deep south than western to me.
You can call him [name_m]Cash[/name_m], but don’t try to pass it off as a nickname for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m].
Thanks for the comments. I am not as into [name_m]Cash[/name_m] as I was when I posted this. I am pretty sure we’ve settled on [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], and I like it, but I am still feeling like I want a nickname that has a little more personality than [name_u]Chris[/name_u]. I don’t have any problem with [name_u]Chris[/name_u], I just want something a little more original.
Suggestions?
My favourite NN for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] is [name_u]Kit[/name_u].
I like [name_m]Kip[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Christoper[/name_m], though [name_m]Topher[/name_m] is a little more modern and less preppy if that’s more your style.
I’d go with [name_u]Kit[/name_u].
Dislike [name_m]Cash[/name_m] for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] - way too much of a stretch. I’d go with [name_u]Kit[/name_u] (my favourite [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] nickname), or [name_m]Topher[/name_m] if you wanna be more intuitive and modern. [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is really nice though!
Thanks. I am trying to like [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but just not connecting to it. Would something like “[name_m]Tov[/name_m]” or “[name_f]Tove[/name_f]” be unthinkable. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like [name_m]Topher[/name_m] much, but trying to think of a one syllable nickname that’s not too far off.
I know I’m going all over the place here. [name_m]Just[/name_m] want to find something that feels right.
I have some Jewish heritage, and have always loved the name [name_u]Tavi[/name_u]. Wondering if [name_m]Tov[/name_m] or [name_u]Tavi[/name_u] (both meaning good in hebrew) would be nicknames for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (since they’re not too far off from [name_m]Topher[/name_m]) that could fly.
Any comments?
I agree that I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] best!
[name_m]Tov[/name_m]/[name_f]Tove[/name_f] works I think… much better and much less of a stretch that [name_m]Cash[/name_m]!
In an attempt to create nicknames for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] I ended up with the following:
Stop
Top
Topper
[name_f]Copper[/name_f]
Riss
[name_m]Risto[/name_m]
Much as I like [name_m]Johnny[/name_m]'s music, I dislike [name_m]Cash[/name_m] because it reminds me of Money, which would be a strange and unfortunate name for a child.
[name_m]Chip[/name_m] is less of a stretch than [name_m]Cash[/name_m], and it sounds western. Google says other Christophers have gone by [name_f]Cricket[/name_f], Critter, Crisco, [name_m]Chuck[/name_m], [name_u]Toby[/name_u], Topper, [name_m]Hopper[/name_m], and Chopper.
I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_u]Tavi[/name_u] work and both are very handsome. [name_m]Kip[/name_m] is a great option too. Or you could use [name_u]Cal[/name_u] from the surname.
