We’re looking for a name for our third child, and someone suggested Caspen. My husband and I both like the way it looks and sounds, but I can’t find any information on it, so it might just be made up. Has anyone heard this name before? Thoughts and opinions? Middle name suggestions?
As for alternatives, [name_m]Casper[/name_m] is out for us because we’re avoiding names that end in -er, and my husband dislikes [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] (which is one of my favorites).
There doesn’t seem to be much information out there about Caspen, so I’m inclined to think that it’s made up. There’s nothing wrong with that, a lot of people have made up names and like them, but they don’t tend to get a positive reception on Nameberry. Caspen definitely sounds like a name, and with its modern, surname-y feel it wouldn’t be out of place among many popular names.
Personally, I like the sound of Caspen, but feel like it would be easily confused for other more familiar names like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m].
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] or [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] (can be pronounced cash-en or cass-ee-en)?
Thanks for the response! I’m not a fan of [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]. [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] is on our list, but my husband finds it a bit fanciful and worries about the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars connection with [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] One.
I do quite like Caspen. The sound is very pleasing, very similar to [name_m]Casper[/name_m] or [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] as the pp mentioned. I also do think it could easily get confused for either of those names. But if that doesn’t bother you, then I’d say go for it. It’s easy to spell, easy to say and familiar sounding. It would work just fine I think!
I was going to suggest [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], but if [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] is too fanciful for your SO, [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] probably is too! [name_m]Castiel[/name_m] too!
All the best with whatever you decide :).
[name_f]Imo[/name_f] it does sound kinda like a little kid name and would look weird when he’s older. I think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] or [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] would work better, especally when he’s older but it’s fine as a name I guess.
I think Caspen works. People might be confused at first and think it is [name_m]Casper[/name_m] or [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] but close family and friends and those that will be in your and your son’s circles would learn quickly.
It has a nice sound, and seems familiar. If you don’t mind using a new name, I think it’s a solid choice.
I tend to like names with long histories, but every name started out as a “made-up” name. Caspen definitely sounds like a variant of [name_m]Casper[/name_m] or [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], even if it’s technically not.
Some other names that seem similar to me -
[name_m]Crispin[/name_m]
[name_m]Castor[/name_m]
[name_m]Casimir[/name_m]
