[name_m]How[/name_m] prevalent is [name_m]Casper[/name_m] the friendly ghost nowadays. I’m 17 and I’ve never heard of it before reading comments on here. And the association isn’t really BAD, right? He’s not an unfriendly ghost…I love [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], and [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], but [name_m]Casper[/name_m] goes much better with my other names. Thoughts?
Honestly I love [name_m]Casper[/name_m], but I also grew up watching [name_m]Casper[/name_m] tv shows, etc. For that reason I’ll never use it, which saddens me because I think it’s a lovely name and a classic (which is my style).
It’s also a good alternative to the popular name [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].
I say use it!
I remember [name_m]Casper[/name_m] the friendly ghost but I doubt my cousins (8yrs my junior) do.
I’ve actually met a little [name_m]Casper[/name_m]. No one mentioned the ghost association and I didn’t actually think of it to be honest
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Casper[/name_m]! My daughter would have been one if a boy.
I don’t think of the ghost, though I know of the association. It’s a reasonably popular name here in the UK — in the 200-300 range I believe. I’ve never seen what’s so bad about the friendly ghost association anyway!
I’m 19 and the association is too much for me to use personally. Not because the association is bad, I just get the song stuck in my head every time I hear the name. So while I like it, I’d never be able to use it. My 15 year old sister knew the association but my 11 year old sister did not.
I like it, and there are worse things or people to be named after or share a name with. I don’t think there have been any movies released in the past few years and I haven’t seen the series on TV in years so his generation probably won’t have the familiarity with the friendly ghost.
A friend in the Netherlands has a son named [name_m]Casper[/name_m]…he’s in his late teens at this point. As far as I know no one has ever said anything to him about the ghost association.
I love [name_m]Casper[/name_m]! I don’t think the movies are coming back any time soon, and even if people do associate it with that, he’s a FRIENDLY ghost. I don’t think it’s an issue, it’son my list if our next kid is a boy!
I love the name [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] an for [name_m]Gaspar[/name_m]. C’assic Cool with a twist and not very popular. Mysterious and formal at the same time.
Also a year older than you, I definitely know the association but I don’t think it’s a bad one. The only thing that worries me (as I love the name [name_m]Casper[/name_m] too) is that I know that pale kids do sometimes get teased and called ‘[name_m]Casper[/name_m]’ and my kid will probably end up being ghostly (lol) pale. I don’t care though, I don’t think it’s a horrible thing.
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] has always been one of my favorite girl names, probably because I was in love with the animated movie based off the Russian Romanov’s.
I was devastated when 50 Shades made [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] popular, or when people linked the name to that specific book (and now movie) and it’s subsequent releases.
The best advice I got was, if you like the name why choose not to use it because it got popular?
I think it would be different if you tried to name a child Hitler or even [name_m]Adolf[/name_m] Hitler (apparently someone in some country tried it and was rejected). There is too much negativity associated to that name.
So, if you love the name [name_m]Casper[/name_m], don’t let a friendly ghost get in your way. I doubt people will stop naming their children [name_m]Harry[/name_m] because of The Boy Who Lived.
I’m 23 and the name [name_m]Casper[/name_m] automatically reminds me of the friendly ghost!
We watched a lot of oldie shows when we were little so I’m very familiar with the mid-90s cartoon and I think Cartoon Network had a show in like '08 (don’t think it was very popular, I never watched it), but even with the association I love [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and think it’s very useable. I know this isn’t exactly the same because it is much more popular, but [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] the aardvark is much more well known and that doesn’t stop people. I’m not a fan, but [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is another option.
I love [name_m]Casper[/name_m], and I grew up watching the tv show/movies. I really don’t think it’s a problem. I know a little [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and he wears it well!
I think it’s very usable and a great name. I’m sure there will be some comments, but it’s not a negative name, just a strongly-held association for many people because the show is their only experience with it. I say use it!
