I really like [name]Casper[/name] and am interested to know how others feel about it?
If I did use it, I would probably call my son by the nn [name]Cas[/name], [name]Just[/name] as much as I would call him [name]Casper[/name]. I am not sure how bothersome the friendly ghost association could be and would like to get other people’s take on it. I would also be interested in ideas for middle names or other first names I might like.
To give you an idea of my style, I like [name]Casper[/name] because it is vintage, distinctly masculine but not macho, uncommon but not unheard of and I feel it “sounds like” a popular name of today ([name]Spencer[/name], [name]Jasper[/name]…). I thought of [name]Jasper[/name], before I thought of [name]Casper[/name], but there are several reasons I cannot use [name]Jasper[/name]. Most of all because my husband is against it. I also love the nn [name]Cas[/name] but would never use it as a stand alone. Other names I like are [name]Dexter[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Edison[/name]/[name]Edward[/name] and [name]Carson[/name]. For a girl my current favorites are [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name]. I welcome all comments and ideas, please help me fall in love with [name]Casper[/name], or help me stop falling in love before I make a mistake!
[name]Casper[/name] is in our top 5. I love the name and the nickname, and I think it has outgrown the ghost associations. It was my great grandfather’s name (spelled [name]Caspar[/name]), so I may be biased, but I say go for it!
Absolutely loooove [name]Casper[/name]!! one of my top favorite names, very sweet. Could not use it myself for my 2 weeks old son as it did not work at all with my last name.
It does not remind me of the ghost, then again I did not grow up in the US (grew up in Germany). It reminds me of [name]Kaspar[/name] Hauser and the romantic painter [name]Caspar[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Friedrich[/name]. Personally, I prefer the -ar spelling.
Go for it!!
I love it (:
I had never heard of the friendly ghost, until somebody else mentioned it on another topic. But then again, I also liked [name]Wednesday[/name] until somebody told me about The Addams Family…
I definitely don’t think you shouldn’t let a ghost stop you using such a wonderful and vintage name.
I think I like the -er spelling more.
I definitely think it’s outgrowing the ghost associations. I’ve only met one [name]Casper[/name], and it was about 10 years ago. He’d be 30 by now. At the time we met I immediately thought of the cartoon character, but in just that short decade I think it’s lost 90% of that vibe. I think [name]Jasper[/name]'s popularity has helped that. Now [name]Casper[/name] sounds like a variation of a number of names that are trendy right now.
And I’m personally partial to the spelling [name]Casper[/name].
I still haven’t quite shaken the friendly ghost, try as I might! I do really like the name [name]Casper[/name], though I personally think [name]Caspian[/name] is even better, and it still gets you [name]Cas[/name]
I definitely think it’s time for [name]Casper[/name] to move past the friendly ghost association. It’s way too cool a name to be bogged down by an old kids’ movie. [name]Casper[/name] was an adorable character anyway.
I am really excited by the largely positive response [name]Casper[/name] is getting on here!
As for the friendly ghost association, as agirlnred said
, so I think some lingering association need not be a terrible thing.
So, I am pretty well sold on [name]Casper[/name], if I can come up with a great middle name to go with it…
I love it too! Also love [name]Caspian[/name], [name]Cassius[/name] and Cassien. As I already have a daughter called [name]Saskia[/name] nn Sas, obviously I could never any of the previously mentioned. Sniff sniff.
I’m another one who loves [name]Casper[/name]! And like someone else said [name]Casper[/name] was a FRIENDLY ghost, which isn’t too bad of an association in my book.
I love [name]Casper[/name] too. It has definitely moved beyond the friendly ghost association from the 90s. What a waste not to use it because of that! I slightly prefer [name]Caspian[/name].
[name]Love[/name] [name]Casper[/name]! Goodbye friendly ghost of my childhood, hello baby boys!
