I’m sorry but for me it’s very friendly ghost. What are your thoughts on [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]? [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] is very handsome.
BTW I adore [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. [name_m]Archie[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] would make a fantastic sibling set.
I think of the ghost as well but I don’t think it’s as big of an association for kids nowadays. To be honest, I’ve never seen the movie, I just remember seeing commercials for it on Disney channel as a kid (they used to play it during their Halloween movie event but I don’t think they do anymore). I don’t have an association other than [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] the ghost so that’s why it immediately comes to mind. I think it’s a lovely name and very usable, especially with its similarity to [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Asher[/name_m], which I also like.
I really like [name_m]Casper[/name_m] but prefer [name_m]Caspian[/name_m].
I think however, welcoming an [name_f]October[/name_f] baby and naming him [name_m]Casper[/name_m] might be bringing the ghost reference to the forefront. Only because that’s when the movies and TV cartoons will [name_f]Air[/name_f] primarily. I don’t think it’s a huge deal but I would be prepared for comments!
The ghost is old news, [name_m]Casper[/name_m]/[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] (I prefer the latter, personally) is great! My daughter would likely have been a [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] had she been a boy. Nicknames [name_m]Cas[/name_m] and [name_m]Cap[/name_m] are lovely too.
I agree with some of the previous posters, it’s usable but still bears the ghost association. Have you considered [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], [name_m]Gaspard[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] or Castel/Costel?
I agree with pps that the ghost reference is still known, but mostly to older generations, so probably it won’t be a big deal in your son’s generation. If you’re really worried, pps have made some suggestions of great, similar names, but beware of the meanings being totally different if not only the sound is important to you.
The only way to shake the friendly ghost association is for parents to use it again. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is old news, but [name_m]Casper[/name_m] feels fresh. What’s so bad about a cute little cartoon ghost anyway?
Thanks all! So I actually do like the friendly ghost association–I loved the movie growing up. Maybe it’s weird but I always wanted an [name_f]October[/name_f]/Halloween baby because it’s my favorite holiday and I love most pop culture associated with it. SO doesn’t like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Asher[/name_m] and while I think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is beautiful, it’s a bit too [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] for me.
