We just found out we’re having a boy. DH is pretty stuck on naming him either [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] or [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. I like both of those names, but I worry that [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is too “out there.” [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is safer, but our daughter’s name is [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], and I’m worried that Lost fans will think we named our kids after a popular couple, which is squicky.
Which way would you go? I love how romantic [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is, but is it on par with us naming our son Aragorn? And [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is great, but it bothers me that some people might get a couple vibe when we say our children’s names together. I’ve been on the lookout for other names, but DH is pretty stubborn. We tend to like names that are a little different, a little softer and quite literary, so any suggestions would be welcome! [name_f]TIA[/name_f]
With the romantic and evocative [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], I don’t think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is too “far-out” at all. I think this name matches the style of your daughters very well. [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] sounds kind of lacking in comparison.
I love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]! It’s romantic, mysterious, and a touch fantasy-like while still being totally “of our world” and usable. I get a gallant gentleman meets sneaky bad boy feel from it. It’s definitely not too out there, especially given some of the names considered “normal” these days… I’ve never watched Lost so I wouldn’t know the [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]/[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] connection.
Suggestions:
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] (my first thought for you. I’m guessing popularity isn’t a huge issue since [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is in the top 200 now [I think]?)
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (my personal favourite boys’ name, also literary)
[name_m]Holden[/name_m]
[name_u]Barrett[/name_u] (I know someone who named her son this after [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Barrett[/name_u] Browning)
[name_m]Bennet/name_m
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]
Artegal
[name_m]Crispin[/name_m] (similar in sound to [name_m]Caspian[/name_m])
Faramond
[name_m]Maximus[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]
[name_m]Gawain[/name_m]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m]
[name_m]Romulus[/name_m]
[name_m]Virgil[/name_m]
Voltaire
[name_m]Clayton[/name_m]
[name_m]Riordan[/name_m] (means “royal bard/poet”)
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m]
[name_u]Calypso[/name_u]
[name_m]Marius[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Casimir[/name_m]
[name_u]Marlow/name_u
[name_m]Orson[/name_m]
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_u]Alton[/name_u]
I love [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], but it is a bit on the trendy side compared to [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. Plus it is now unisex. (I much prefer it for a boy!)
I agree that [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is more romantic and stands up to [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] better.
I love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. It’s my favourite boys name and will hopefully be my first (very distant) future son’s name. It’s just such a magical name, particularly because of the very good association with [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], and it’s definitely usable but not overly popular.
Definitely [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]! I think it goes well with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], and doesn’t feel to out-there in this age of Atticuses and Jaxxyns. I dislike both the sound and the trendy-ness of [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] (I suspect it will be very dated in a few decades.) I also suspect that quite a few people will think of Lost.
I think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] stands next to [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] much better than [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]. As mentioned, [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] has gone unisex and is trendy to boot. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is neither of these things. I like how [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] both have literary roots.
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] pairs better with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. It has the same romantic feel, whereas [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] feels too rugged with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. The nickname [name_m]Cas[/name_m] is very wearable and down-to-earth. I don’t think it’s too out there. If you get any blank stares when you introduce him, just remind them of [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m].
I really love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], but I can understand your hesitation of it being a bit too out there.
I think it pairs beautifully with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f].
Maybe a nickname you love would make you feel like it’s more usable? [name_m]Cap[/name_m]? Cip? [name_m]Case[/name_m]?
I like it soo much better than [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], which feels uber trendy.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is such a dreamy sibset, I love how well the names compliment each other. I don’t think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is too out there, you could always give him a nickname if it helps you ground the name. However, [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] in full is so lovely. [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is cute, but I don’t really see him as a brother to [name_f]Juliet[/name_f].
Thanks everyone for all your help! I do really love the name [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]; I just have moments of cowardice. We plan on using the nickname [name_m]Cas[/name_m], which helps a bit to alleviate the pressure of using a flashier name (although my mother wants to spell it Kaz because she doesn’t like me to have nice things :/)
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]! [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] are just smashing together. I think they’re so fun and literary together, and if you want something more “normal” he could always go by [name_u]Cass[/name_u] or [name_m]Ian[/name_m] as a nn. The Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] are some of my favorite books, and I love [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] (both the book and the character!). I think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is just darling. It’s so swashbuckling and adventurous, and I can just see any little boy of mine loving having such a cool name. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] 100% gets my vote! I love [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], too, and I think [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] sound great together, but I would probably avoid it, just to be safe. I’m a little excessive on loving the LOST names, too.
Oh my! [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is absolutely dreamy. I don’t think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is too out there at all, I would be more intrigued if anything if I met a little [name_m]Caspian[/name_m].
I am a Lost fan and I didn’t make the connection until you mentioned it. I think because I make the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] connection with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] my first thought with [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] would be [name_m]Tom[/name_m] [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], like a literature theme which I like.
I like [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] better than [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] but [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is cool too. I don’t think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is in par with naming your child Aragorn. It’s not like you’re naming him Aslan. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] has more ties to it than just [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] from the [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] series. (Not sure if that’s what you meant by on par with Aragorn but that’s how I took it, hopefully I haven’t given you anoth concern with the name! [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is a great hero for your boy to look up to ;))
Another vote for [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]! It’s a real-world place name, so I think that grounds it. Plus, as others have said, it sounds so very nice with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]!
