[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_u]Cass[/name_u] - just [name_u]Cass[/name_u] - or [name_m]Quill[/name_m] for a little boy? Which do you like better with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Cass[/name_u] would sound ridiculous with a surname that includes the craz sound as the second of four syllables?
I saw a telemovie about [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] once and she was friends with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_m]Chaplin[/name_m]'s son (also called [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]) and he was nicknamed [name_u]Cass[/name_u], which I thought was cute. Although, realistically, [name_u]Cass[/name_u] is rather feminine so I wouldn’t use it (as a full name anyway).
I don’t like [name_m]Quill[/name_m] at all.
I think [name_u]Cass[/name_u] could work well as a nn with more substantial formal name. I don’t like [name_m]Quill[/name_m] for either gender and especially not for a boy.
I think both [name_u]Cass[/name_u] and [name_m]Quill[/name_m] are super cute, but feel a little more nickname-y to me. While not necessarily a bad thing, next to [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] they might feel a little informal. If looking at the names as-is, I feel like [name_m]Quill[/name_m] fits better with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]. I also like [name_m]Quillan[/name_m] for a little bit fuller, more grounded way to get to [name_m]Quill[/name_m], as long as you don’t mind having two boys that ended in “n” names (not the biggest deal to me, personally).
Also, this is off-topic, but I was reading your sig and couldn’t resist: you need to go treat yourself to a Pistachio flavored Talenti Gelato. Pistachio ice cream is my absolute favorite but the Talenti Gelato is like crack and you need it in your life (the gelato, not crack).
Hmm. I like [name_m]Quill[/name_m], but as a fun middle name only. And I adore [name_u]Cass[/name_u], but as a nickname. Of the two, I’d say [name_m]Quill[/name_m] feels more like a given name. [name_u]Cass[/name_u] is too informal, imo. It doesn’t give him anything to fall back on when he’s older and wants something with more substance.
[name_m]Ivan[/name_m] is such a great name - strong, handsome and lots of European flair. [name_u]Cass[/name_u] and [name_m]Quill[/name_m] just can’t compare. They may be better in the middle spot ([name_m]Quill[/name_m] would be great for a writer!). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], [name_m]Cassiel[/name_m] or Castimer?
I’ve got a major soft spot for [name_u]Cass[/name_u], so I have to go with that.
Thanks, everyone! SO vetoed both, I guess I shouldn’t have asked for opinions first. We did agree on a name, which I will be asking for opinions on when we decide on a middle.
taliawhat - That sounds way too good! I’ve had their mint chocolate and coconut, which are amazing, but I had no idea that they made pistachio. I will absolutely look for it the next time I’m out, thank you!
