I love the name ‘[name_f]Cassia[/name_f]’ for a girl and ‘[name_m]Lucian[/name_m]’ for a boy, but with the assumption/hope that people will pronounce the names: ‘[name_f]Casha[/name_f]’ and ‘Looshun’.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think people will mispronounce them? If so, how much of an annoyance will this really be for my child? Does anyone else have experience with names with a less obvious pronunciation?
Personally, I would pronounce them both with the “shh” sound unless the parents corrected me otherwise. I think however you decide to pronounce it would be okay. You might have to correct some people, but if you love the name (s) then I’d say go with it.
I wonder the same thing about the name [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. I love it, but I don’t know how many people would pronounce it “loo-sha.”
I say [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] properly (perhaps because I have a family member with this name), but [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] would automatically come to me as [name_u]Cass[/name_u]-ee-uh.
People would probably use the ‘shun’ sound for both, although I prefer [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] when it’s pronounced Loo-sea-un, because I really hate the ‘sh’ sound, I feel as if it’s a bit sloppy.
I wouldn’t pronounce them like that. I say [name_u]Cass[/name_u]-ee-uh and Loo-shee-uhn so yes, I think some people would pronounce them differently from how you want (I think the [name_u]Cass[/name_u]-ee-uh pronunciation is equally correct and also quite a popular pronunciation).
I don’t think it’s that much of a big deal though, you just correct people and then they will say it how you want. My name is constantly pronounced wrong and I don’t really mind.
