What are your thoughts on the name [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]? Would you say it’s unisex or feminine?
Any thoughts welcome, although I am in the UK so its popularity in the US in the 90s isn’t relevant here (stats say it was most popular in 1994 where it hit #203).
I don’t mind [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]. I do see it as unisex, however, I suppose due to the usage on females being more common, I’d automatically assume a [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] to be female. That said, I would love/prefer to see/hear [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] on a male, with the nickname ‘[name_u]Cass[/name_u]’ - sounds really cool to me.
In theory I think of [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] as unisex, but I have only known girls named [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]. I am in the U.S. and I like [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u].
Honestly, I love the name! It was really popular when I was in school but I wouldn’t say that puts me off of it, it’s just not really my style much anymore! I think it’s beautiful on other people’s children, but not my own, I guess I would say.
Thanks. I kinda like the idea on a male, I think of it as more feminine than masculine but a [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] nn [name_u]Cass[/name_u] on a male is really cool. I got the name from [name_m]Brian[/name_m] [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] from [name_m]Law[/name_m] & Order: SVU who goes by [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u], and it really works on him!
Thanks. I know it hit it off in the 90s on girls in the US, but despite being Irish, hasn’t really kicked off much here.
Thanks, [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! I think it has that vibe too. Those stats are helpful, thank you, although that is such a low number but it goes to show which gender it leans to.
That makes sense, [name_u]Haley[/name_u], thanks! I know it was very much overused over there, but it’s a fresh name here (for lack of better word, I don’t personally know, nor know of, any Cassidys!)
I don’t mind [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u], but it’s a pretty typical name where I’m from in the US. It feels late 1990s/early 2000s to me, as all the [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] I know are in their teens…personally, I’d group it in the same category as names such as [name_f]Hailey[/name_f], [name_m]Justin[/name_m], etc (not that that’s a bad thing!).
Although [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] wouldn’t be my first choice, I still think it’s bright has a strong vibe. I have always considered it more feminine than unisex, as every [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] I’m familiar with (in terms of first names) is female. My strongest association is with [name_m]Butch[/name_m] [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u], which has always been a negative for me, but if you’re in the UK that shouldn’t matter.
I view it as unisex. I haven’t met anyone called [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] (in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand)
I use to have it on my boys list as I think it has a rockstar sound, and I love the nn [name_m]Sid[/name_m]
I really like [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]! I have a [name_u]Cass[/name_u]- derivative name ([name_f]Cassia[/name_f]), and I still think that [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] is unisex. I am from western [name_f]Canada[/name_f] where it’s a bit of a cowboy name- especially the nickname [name_u]Cass[/name_u] on a boy.
I think there has been a small resurgence in other [name_u]Cass[/name_u]- names for boys - [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] that might help [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] seem a little more unisex to those who follow names. I am guessing it would read more feminine to most people though.
I do see it as a unisex name but I’ve only ever known girls with that name - in fact, I was almost named [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]. I like it on both but if I were to use it, it would be on a girl! Although, I do like the nickname [name_u]Cass[/name_u] on a boy…
I find [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] to be a bit blah on a girl, but I would love to hear it on a boy; it kind of has a cowboy vibe to me. I love the nickname [name_u]Cass[/name_u].
I am in the Western US and I have known two people named [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]. One is a teenage girl and the other is a man in his early 30s. It’s funny that [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] is associated with cowboys because that is the nickname of the male [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] I know. If I were to hear the name randomly without context I probably would assume the person being discussed is female, but it would be nice to have a more even distribution.
I think of it as unisex and associate it with [name_u]Shaun[/name_u] and [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] and [name_f]Kathie[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] [name_m]Gifford[/name_m]'s daughter. I thought of [name_m]Butch[/name_m] [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] as well. I think it is a good time to return it to the boys.
I would think of it as unisex, but definitely leaning towards feminine, as the only Cassidys I have met are girls.
I think it would be sweet on boys though!!
I live in the UK.
Thank you for the feedback! I love how cool it sounds on a boy (especially with nn [name_u]Cass[/name_u] or even [name_m]Cash[/name_m]), but I think I prefer it on a girl. I love how it isn’t used much here, I’ve never come across one but I’ve come across a few Americans called this on TV shows and the alike. But it doesn’t feel bleh to me like [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] or [name_u]Riley[/name_u] do on either gender.
