For a while I’ve really loved the name Catani. I know it’s pretty unique, it’s a small town in Australia and is also used as last name. I found a deep connection the name. My dad’s side of the family is from Australia, and I love the country, and one of my favourite bands from my childhood has an amazing song, called Catani, pr [name]Cat[/name]-are-nee, it’s said kind of fast. Nicknames would be [name]Cat[/name] or even [name]Ana[/name], or [name]Ani[/name].
I also love the way it looks but then I doubt myself. Is it too weird? Are there an Australians out there, would you find this weird or cute? Are there any other names that sound similar or have a similar style? Any opinions? Middle name ideas? Thanks
I like it! Plus [name]Cat[/name] is a nice nn for her to use if Catani is giving her problems. Tani wouldn’t be bad either. I knew a girl named [name]Tawny[/name] once, so it seems pretty usable for me.
I think if its pronounced [name]Cat[/name]-are-nee you may have some trouble, since there’s no ‘r’ in Catani. I thought it was ‘[name]Cat[/name]-ah-knee’.
Where is the stress falling? My instinct is to stress the second syllable – ca-[name]TAH[/name]-nee – in which case I don’t love the sound; it doesn’t seem particularly namey. The spelling is also a problem for me – I generally dislike ends-in-i names for girls and this one doesn’t look very feminine on paper. I don’t think it’s a great choice.
I’m not from Australia, but it works for me. If I met a little Catani I probably would say, “Oh, that’s an interesting name…” and you could explain where it’s from, or what it means to you (or you could just say, “Yes, it is.”) and most people would accept that fine. I think the important thing is you feel a connection to the name, so if you want to use it, do.
