Cato

Please excuse my edit

I like [name]Cato[/name] a lot. I heard of it from Hunger Games though, and instantly loved it.

The character is a big character from what I saw in the movies, and he’s not a positive one either. He’s kind of like [name]Draco[/name] Malfoy in [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name].

But since [name]Cato[/name] is an ancient roman name, I think it’s fine to be used. I think it can exist just fine.

I like [name]Cato[/name] for it’s ancient history but if the movie association bothers you then it might be better to put it off for a while. [name]Cato[/name] is the main bad guy in the movies, and he’s there until the brutal end.

i think it would be fine in a few years. If the associations don’t bother you, then go for it!

[name]Cato[/name] is a Hunger Games character so imo it’s tied to a YA novel names trend like [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Esme[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Aria[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Hermione[/name], ect.
I think my mom’s gen named their kids after soap opera characters & this generation goes for YA series character names.

I also strongly associate [name]Cato[/name] to the OJ [name]Simpson[/name] trial witness [name]Cato[/name] [name]Caylin[/name], not sure of the spelling.

Maybe you would like the sound of [name]Milo[/name], [name]Arlo[/name] or [name]Nico[/name]?

I really like this name!

I think it’ll be associated with the Hunger Games to those who are big fans, but I truly believe it’ll be forgotten in a couple of years. Especially since he is only in the first novel and not a main character like [name]Katniss[/name] or Peeta (which I would say no to). Once the second and third movies come out, people will have moved on from [name]Cato[/name].

I’ve grown to like [name]Cato[/name] a lot. It honestly never seemed usable until HG, but it also has the strong association to the books, and now the movie. [name]Cato[/name]'s really only in the first movie/book, but yes, he’s not the best character. I don’t know if you know much about the series, but he’s a career tribute, cocky and arrogant and vicious. He’s really not that likeable of a guy, but he still didn’t deserve to die, especially the way he did (eaten/being torn apart by mutts), so you feel a bit of mercy for him at the end. But I agree with the others, since he’s only in the first book, and not as big of a deal as [name]Katniss[/name], Peeta, and [name]Gale[/name], I think people will quickly move past the HG association. I probably wouldn’t use it for another couple of years, but after that I think it’d be fine. I think you could still use it now, but there would probably be a couple questions, but he’d grow up not having to worry about the association, whereas if you waited a couple years, you probably wouldn’t get any questions and neither would he.

Good luck!
