I love both [name]Cecilia[/name] and [name]Celine[/name] but I hate [name]Cecilia[/name]'s meaning. I love that [name]Celine[/name] means heaven but I worry it is too associated ith Miss [name]Dion[/name]. All of my other names tend to have very positive meanings. Which sounds better with my top names listed in my signature? Which do you like better? Which is worse a celebrity connection or a bad meaning?
If your worry with a celebrity connection or a bad meaning is because of what other people will think, I say a celebrity connection is “worse”. It would be more noticeable, especially since [name]Celine[/name] is so unique in Anglophone countries and therefore the only one many people know of is Miss [name]Dion[/name]. On the other hand, most non-namenerds don’t know that [name]Cecilia[/name] means blind.
[name]Long[/name] story short: you’re probably more likely to get “[name]Celine[/name], oh like [name]Celine[/name] [name]Dion[/name]?” than “[name]Cecilia[/name]… oh, that means “blind”, doesn’t it” when you introduce her.
Thanks for the opinion my fear with [name]Cecilia[/name] is that she will be jealous of her sisters names with such wonderful meanings while hers means blind. I’m sure not many would know the meaning. I’m more afraid she will come up and ask me what her name means and while her sisters names mean things like light, bright, and life, hers will mean blind. It would be much nicer to tell her that her name means heaven but I wonder if she, and possibly we, will get tired of all the [name]Celine[/name] [name]Dion[/name] associations…
I agree with the previous poster that most people who aren’t name fanatics won’t know the meaning of [name]Cecilia[/name], and even if they do know it, it will likely not affect their appreciation for the lovely name. [name]Celine[/name], on the other hand, is strongly connected to [name]Celine[/name] [name]Dion[/name] in nearly every American’s mind (and I wouldn’t even know [name]Celine[/name] [name]Dion[/name] from [name]Eve[/name] if I saw her picture, yet even I associate “[name]Celine[/name]” with “[name]Dion[/name]”). HOWEVER, having said all of that, I have to say that [name]Celine[/name] still gets my vote. I think that once people meet a [name]Celine[/name], the [name]Dion[/name] association will fade away almost immediately, and when that image is shed, the name [name]Celine[/name] can be appreciated for its very pleasant, sleek, and feminine sound. [name]Celine[/name] is on my long list; [name]Cecilia[/name] is not. [name]Both[/name] names are recognizable and easy to spell and pronounce, but [name]Celine[/name] would be much more exciting to see on a child than [name]Cecilia[/name] in my opinion because it is so rarely used. [name]Celine[/name] would be much more of a surprise to come across than [name]Cecilia[/name].
With your other names, I think [name]Cecilia[/name] sounds best with the classics you have listed, and [name]Celine[/name] sounds best with your more exotic names common in other languages, such as [name]Elena[/name] and [name]Dominic[/name].
I like [name]Celine[/name] better. I just have never liked [name]Cecilia[/name]. Idk why.
I do think [name]Celine[/name] is totally [name]Dion[/name]. Maybe spell it [name]Selene[/name]? Or go with something else entirely, like [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Celia[/name], or Celandine.
You may also like [name]Ciel[/name] (see-[name]ELL[/name]), the French word for sky.
You could always go with [name]Celia[/name], which means heavenly.
Go for [name]Celine[/name]. Absolutely. I recently met a [name]Celine[/name] who I like a lot and I never once thought of [name]Celine[/name] [name]Dion[/name] and I have never heard anyone reference [name]Dion[/name] in my friend [name]Celine[/name]'s presence. It’s a non-issue in my opinion. (much better than the poor [name]Christina[/name] Aguilera I know who was named right before the famous one got famous).
Agree with PP re [name]Celia[/name]
Personally I couldn’t name my child something that had a negative meaning behind it. A bad meaning of a name means is way worse than other people’s possible association with [name]Celine[/name] [name]Dion[/name]. I think [name]Celine[/name] in the coming generation wouldn’t even be associated with ms [name]Dion[/name] that much…adults might think of ms [name]Dion[/name] but your child’s peers wouldn’t. I say out of your names above go with [name]Celine[/name] Geneivee. As far as the other names- [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Elena[/name], [name]Julia[/name] are all pretty common names. [name]Olive[/name], [name]Clara[/name], & [name]Willow[/name] are all trendy and very popular right now. I think your unique names are Viviene, [name]Camilla[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], Geneiveve, and [name]Simone[/name]. My personal dislikes are [name]Nora[/name] & [name]Josephine[/name] (too much like [name]Joseph[/name]),
I would go with [name]Celine[/name]. Better meaning, prettier sound. I agree with the previous comment that the younger generation will probably not get the [name]Celine[/name] [name]Dion[/name] connection, if at all. [name]Celine[/name] is such a pretty and underused name! I say go for it!
I vote for [name]Cecilia[/name], without a doubt. It sounds like you prefer this name, and in my opinion it is much prettier. For me, not only do I instantly think of [name]Celine[/name] [name]Dion[/name] when I hear the name [name]Celine[/name], but I also don’t think it holds a candle to the name [name]Cecilia[/name]. I get put off by meanings, but this is one I could cope with. It’s not like it means “ugly soul” or anything dreadful like that. You can put a spin on [name]Cecilia[/name]'s meaning. “Blind” could mean that you hope she will be blind to all cruelness in the world, or blind to the differences among the people she comes across in life. Kind of deep I know, but definitely something to offer her if the meaning of her name bothers her- though with a name as gorgeous as [name]Cecilia[/name], I doubt she’ll care one way or the other.
