Cecily or Lily

I’m pregnant with our first. Our due date is in early [name]August[/name]. We don’t know yet whether we are having a boy or a girl, but are trying to narrow down names. [name]Diane[/name] is my Grandma’s name, so that will definitely be the middle name. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lily[/name], but am just realizing now how popular it is. I recently came across [name]Cecily[/name], and at first glance I really like it. (And I don’t love many names!)

What does everyone think?

[name]Lily[/name] [name]Diane[/name] OR
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Diane[/name]

My hubby is on board with [name]Lily[/name], and doesn’t care about whether it is popular or not. Is [name]Lily[/name] too popular? [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Cecily[/name] or is it too uncommon? Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thank you!!!

[name]Lily[/name] [name]Diane[/name].

The combo balances out as sweet, spunky, and meaningful. I imagine a girl named [name]Lily[/name] as a ray of sunshine

[name]Lily[/name] [name]Diane[/name]. It sounds soft and sweet. Beautiful!

I like [name]Lily[/name]. Its on my list for a future daughter. I know [name]Lily[/name] is popular, but that is because it is a beautiful name that ages well.

[name]Lily[/name] [name]Diane[/name] for me, too! Then again, the name [name]Lily[/name] (and the names that yield it as a nn) are my closest and dearest connection to my grandmother, so when it comes to me, no concerns about popularity will ever concern me, because that tie to my grandmother is completely worth it. I think [name]Lily[/name]'s adorable, it wouldn’t be too popular for me. There are much less children with popular names these days than there were when we were born. There were 8,112 Lilys born in [name]America[/name] last year (this is ignoring [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Lilia[/name], [name]Lila[/name], [name]Lilibet[/name], [name]Lilly[/name], [name]Lillie[/name], etc., though), so that averages out to about 162 and one quarter Lilys in each state. Most states have about 67 counties in it, so that averages out to about 3.5 Lilys in each county. And then there are generally about 20 public school districts in each county, so that would average about one [name]Lily[/name] in seven school districts for each grade. So that would be an average of two Lilys in one school district, if you include Pre-K and Kindergarten. And this doesn’t include charter schools, home schools, Catholic schools, [name]Christian[/name]-but-not-Catholic private schools, secular private schools, etc., so in reality it would be much less than that. I wouldn’t be concerned with [name]Lily[/name]'s popularity personally, but I can understand why a lot of people are.

Good luck!

I love [name]Lily[/name] too…

lily is indeed lovely, but far too popular in my opinion. i think you just need to ask yourself how much it will bother you (or your daughter) if she is one of many lily’s throughout her life. if its not a big deal to you, then go for it.
i must say though that cecily is a wonderful name that i have always loved (since being in a production of “the importance of being earnest” is highschool haha). it has such a neat sound: both strong and elegant.
cecily diane gets my vote!

I’m going to be the voice of dissent. While [name]Lily[/name] is very pretty, [name]Cecily[/name] is just a beautiful (imo) and much more unexpected. [name]Cecily[/name] is both literary and historical, which I find meaningful.

I don’t like [name]Cecily[/name] much. I just prefer [name]Celia[/name] or [name]Cecilia[/name] more.

[name]Lily[/name] is really cute and if you really really really love it, then you should use it regards of what the popularity is.

Thank you everyone! Your responses are wonderful and so helpful

I dislike [name]Cecily[/name] and [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lily[/name]!

[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Diane[/name] is just stunning. It outshines [name]Lily[/name] by far.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Cecily[/name]! I tried to get hubs to sign off on it, but he has no vision for these things. I think [name]Lily[/name] is pretty, but it doesn’t seem to flow well with [name]Diane[/name] in my opinion. I think [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Diane[/name] is beautiful.
