We have our list narrowed down to 2! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] girl due in [name_f]April[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is a long time favorite that my husband finally came around to, but isn’t feeling as fresh too me rn? Maybe stylistically the trends are turning away from it? [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a newer love that I’m a little concerned will sound dated eventually and possibly is better on a pet than a child since it’s a word name? Please tell me your thoughts!!
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and I hate it. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is much fresher, sounds amazing, and looks great on paper
oh this is tough because I absolutely adore both names! [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is high up on my list and I think she ages just fine, to my mind she’s too much of a classic to sound dated - yes she’s had a big jump in popularity, I don’t think it’s enough to tie her definitely to one era. That said I know a tiny [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and I think it’s adorable on her; I also think that if you’ve loved a name for such a long time you might regret it more if you don’t use her? Also your other daughter has a slightly more unexpected name so they go together really well? But either would be a great choice!!
Personally, I prefer [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].
I think it’s a more distinct and melodic sound. I do not think it’s unfresh or dated or anything - similar [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] has been on a steady rise for a while (and I’m puzzled as to why [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] hasn’t followed that trend either!) I think it’s a really versatile name that suits all ages and personalities, while at the same time being distinct but not weird.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is fine too of course, but it’s a bit more trendy and definitely way more popular. It is totally fine on a person - it’s a top 20 name in the US right now.
I personally prefer [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], partially because it isn’t as trendy. It feels much more unexpected than [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] much more.
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is a name I’d always wanted for a daughter, and I definitely prefer it to [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
I prefer violet. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is pretty but still seems a little harsh sounding too me
and why don’t you like your name? [name_f]My[/name_f] great grandmother was [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and always hated her name too another beautiful vintage revival! what are your thoughts on Violet’s dramatic increase in popularity in recent years?
because I get bullied for it. and people always ask if my favorite flower is violets or if I like purple, I’m changing it as soon as I can because of it
I prefer [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. I think it is charming. I have only ever met one [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] as well, so it is not common in my opinion.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] always sounds like Violent to me. Sorry
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] has always looked and sounded horrible to me.
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. A gorgeous vintage stunner. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is too close to violent for me, and has become a bit of a go-to predictable hipster option. No offence at all to any violet’s, my aversion is more with the associations than anything. I do really like the more unusual [name_f]Viola[/name_f], in fact I think [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Viola[/name_f] make beautiful siblings.
You thought of allll the things
i have been trying to determine if I’m just going thru a little bit of a valley in Cecilys appeal to me or if i just don’t like it as much anymore… but I definitely worry I’d regret not using it now that my husband’s come around and i have the chance? I also tend to really like a name and then burn out on it… so waiting to see if that happens with Violet…
And while i think both names pair well with L€ona there’s definitely a discrepancy in popularity among all 3 names! Cecily’s unranked, L€ona’s 500 something, Violet’s #20 nationally (but #10 in my state)
So im trying to get feedback and then i dunno maybe a situation of needing to meet the baby first?
I prefer [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], especially because it’s been your favorite for so long.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is one that I used to really enjoy, but it just doesn’t have a very pretty sound and feels kind of harsh on the tongue. It also unnecessarily reminds me of the word violent, which I know is unfair of me, but I just can’t separate the two in my mind.
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], in the other hand, is lovely and lilting and all of those beautiful things. It’s more unusual but the pronunciation and spelling are rather intuitive, which is always nice. Besides, you can almost never go wrong with choosing the name that’s stood the test of time. I’m sure that when [name_u]Baby[/name_u] arrives, the name [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] will feel as wonderful and special as your daughter herself.
I have heard this before!! There’s a contingent of ppl who hear “violent”
Tough choice!
[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourite is the light, bright [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] would get my vote.
I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (we actually used it for my daughters middle) it is so sweet and soft, and I think its more classic and wont feel dated in the future. But if you’ve loved [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] for so long and are unsure of [name_f]Violet[/name_f], I would definitely choose [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].
Personally I think the fact that [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] fits in to the trends but isnt popular is a great thing! It means her name is going to feel like it belongs, but she isnt going to share it with a bunch of kids in her class.
Both are nice, but I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], it’s aesthetically and sonically pleasing, but the meaning ‘blind’ and the part ‘cily’ - silly, puts me off
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I love that in floriography it means faithful/everlasting love. I also think it has lots of lovely nn potentials…Vi, Vio, [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_u]Ola[/name_u], [name_f]Iola[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]. But some people think it sounds too close to violent or the french meaning of the word violé (e.g. violate…)
in conclusion i’m not sure
