Cecily

What do you think of this name?
I’ve been thinking about this name lately. My favorite names tend to be either classic or vintage Victorian/Edwardian-era names, and this one fits the latter category perfectly. I really like that this one isn’t really popular, like so many of my favorites are.
[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Cecily[/name] fits in well with the names in my signature?
Lastly, do you have any suggestions for middle names to go with [name]Cecily[/name]?
Thanks so much for your help! I cannot wait to see what you all come up with!

I love the name [name]Cecily[/name] too  I think it does fit with your names as well.
As for middle names how about -

[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Adaline[/name]

I love [name]Cecily[/name] also! I wouldn’t worry about whether it “fits” with the other names you like. You love what you love!

My only concern about [name]Cecily[/name] (because I adore it too!) is how well it might travel/whether it is pronounceable for people who speak other languages. Any thoughts? It also sounds a lot like [name]Sicily[/name], so I wonder if people who hadn’t heard the name before might be confused. It’s gorgeous though.

[name]Cecily[/name] is gorgeous! It’s one of my favorite names. Other alternatives are [name]Cecilia[/name] (which I also love) and [name]Cecile[/name].

I think [name]Cecily[/name] is lovely!

@lucystone has already provided you with some awesome combos, so I don’t have that many to add but maybe:

[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]

My second daughter’s name is [name]Cecilie[/name], and obviously I think it’s a lovely name.

I like [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Sorrel[/name] and [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Solange[/name].

Btw, I keep reading that [name]Cecily[/name] means “blind”, but from what I understand, it’s not necessarily true and mere folk etymology. I did some research before I gave the name to my daughter, and here is what I found:

“[name]Cecilia[/name] comes from coeli lilia, “lily of heaven,” or from caecis via, “a way unto the blind,” or from coelum, “heaven,” and lya, “one who works.” Or again, it is the same as caecitate carens, “free from blindness,” or comes from coelum, “heaven,” and leos, “people.”” (Source is the [name]Chaucer[/name] Name Dictionary, not that this makes it a fact.)

Anyway, sorry for the nerd moment.

Blind or not, it’s a gorgeous name.

[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Cecily[/name]! I think it fits in nicely with your other names.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Cecily[/name]! The Importance of Being [name]Earnest[/name] is one of my favorite literary works ever–it’s such a hilarious masterpiece!–and I love [name]Cecily[/name] in it (and [name]Gwendolen[/name], and [name]Jack[/name], and [name]Algernon[/name]… but that’s besides the point!). That’s probably what got me to love [name]Cecily[/name], but even without the reference I think it’s a great name.

I’ve always been really torn when it comes to combos–I tried to use it as a first MN for one of my combos once ([name]Hannah[/name] [name]Cecily[/name]), but I couldn’t make it work because I didn’t like anything that came after it–but maybe something like [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Elspeth[/name] or [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] would be nice…

[name]Cecily[/name] is on my short list at the moment but both my mother in law and sister in law keep pronouncing it [name]Sicily[/name]. It’s making me reconsider using it. My husbands only name requirement is that it won’t be butchered on a day to day basis. But I still love it.

I grew up with a [name]Cecily[/name] (CESS eh lee) I think it’s a nice name.

I’ve wondered a lot about this name too and like Cécile regardless of meaning, however I’m not sure this is correct either. I dont know a lot about Latin but I think there is a confusion between Caecus (latin for blind, darkness) and Caelum (heaven, sky)

I found this on another site which I think may sum up the argument about the meaning of Cecilia:
Celia isn’t a part of the Cecilia family. I know they’re similar names (and this doesn’t mean you should use them on sisters ), but Celia comes from the Latin name Caelius, which comes from caelum, meaning “heaven” and Cecilia comes from Caecilius, from caecus, which means “blind”.

Here’s an article by a scholar on the name Cecilia in regards to the Saint as well as some other religious stuff. I havent read all of this yet but it looks really interesting! http://www.uni-tuebingen.de/connotations/carruthe22.htm

I adore [name]Cecily[/name]. I think it goes well with your other favorites. I love the Edwardian feel and always see the [name]Cecily[/name] from “The Importance of Being [name]Earnest[/name]” having tea in the garden in an ornate Edwardian white dress. Who can resist that image?

I saw many good ideas for middle names in the posts above. [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Jane[/name] stayed with me.

[name]Cecily[/name] is a fantastic name in my opinion. As far as the names in your siggie, [name]Cecily[/name] is slightly more edgy and unexpected, to me, except for [name]Kerensa[/name], [name]Lucian[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], and [name]Edmund[/name]. Several of your names would be fun and fitting sibs, though.

I like French mn with. They ground it and sound fresh. - [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Doreen[/name], [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Corinne[/name], [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Francine[/name], [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Justine[/name], [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Nanette[/name]
