Celeb Factor

So I want to get some [name]Berry[/name] opinions on Celeb names, baby and grown up alike. [name]Do[/name] you automatically eliminate a name possibility once a Celeb gives it to their little one? Are you MORE inclined to use it? [name]Do[/name] you think associations with a famous person over power otherwise great names? I am asking with a specific name in mind: [name]Suri[/name]. I [name]LOVE[/name] this name and it would work perfectly in my family’s sib set. However; as soon as I mention it I get the “Its too TomKat for me” statement. [name]Do[/name] I really need to shelve a beloved name because a couch jumping movie actor happened to love it too?

Of course, if you really like it you should use it, but obviously a lot of people will think of [name]Katie[/name] [name]Holmes[/name] and [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name]'s [name]Suri[/name]. Personally she has kind of ruined the name for me, because she really doesn’t seem like a very pleasant person. But if you love it, use it!

I think you need to look at it as in if it hadn’t been pinned to a celebaby would you still have found it and loved it? You face the inevitable comparisons through your lo’s young life but that will fade eventually…I think it’s adorable and would use it if it worked in my family:)

Hmm difficult. The problem with [name]Suri[/name] is that it is 100% [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] to me, never heard it before, never heard it on another child. Also I dislike [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] soo much. If it was Brangelina, [name]Demi[/name] [name]Moore[/name], [name]Pink[/name], whatever I could get over it I think. But I can’t even watch a movie if [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] appears in it, so yep, he ruined that name for me I think.

I do think it’s pretty, I would love to meet a little girl named [name]Suri[/name], though I’d still think of [name]Tom[/name]…

But [name]Katie[/name] [name]Holmes[/name] is changing the girl’s name I heard (which I find pretty stupid but it could serve you  )

Also there is the rumor that [name]Suri[/name] was named after the Scientology headquarters in Surrey, don’t like that background…

My problem with giving a child a celebrity’s child’s name is that you no longer sound creative or original. It gives the impression that you heard the celebrity’s name and stole it off them. I used to love the name [name]Shiloh[/name] (I was familiar with it as a Biblical place name and the name of a children’s novel), but now I’ll never use it because people who don’t know where I got it from will think I stole it off [name]Angelina[/name]. Would you be willing to change the spelling of [name]Suri[/name]? I’m not a fan of changing spellings, but Surrey is a place name/word name. [name]Curry[/name] is similar too–a spice.

Depends on the name, but for me, [name]Suri[/name] is way too associated with [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] and [name]Katie[/name] [name]Holmes[/name]. I think everyone will most likely think you nabbed the name from them.

I never knew [name]Cruise[/name]'s daughter’s name until I read this post, so not everyone will associate it. Mainly just people who follow those sorts of things.

Maybe you could use a longer name and [name]Suri[/name] as a nickname. Like Suriana or Surilyn or Surilee?

I too like [name]Suri[/name] and have before [name]Suri[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] was born. I don’t see why you couldn’t use it.

No, I do not.
I tend to not let other people’s choices sway my own regarding names, so that relates to popularity charts, celebrity use etc.

I’m definitely not more inclined…unless it’s put on my radar, as in the case of [name]Seraphina[/name] Affleck. I never knew of the name before hand. I don’t think the association with a celebrity overpowers a great name, unless it’s a negative association. Such as in the case for me with the name [name]Electra[/name] and [name]Carmen[/name] [name]Electra[/name].

I think you should use [name]Suri[/name]. You love it, it’s nice, and she’s hardly the only [name]Suri[/name] in the world.
I think it would be silly really for you to give up the name [name]Suri[/name]! [name]Just[/name] because [name]Tom[/name] and [name]Katie[/name] used it doesn’t mean that the whole world can’t touch it again. Celebrities are human, I don’t think we should be giving them such power over our fondness for names. :stuck_out_tongue:
