Celebrity names

Hello!!

So I have a few names that I really like and think are pretty but could they realistically be used or would they forever be associated with the famous person.

[name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariah[/name_f]
[name_f]Rihanna[/name_f] - loveee this one!
[name_f]Solange[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Billie[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlet[/name_f]
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]

Thank you!!

“I associate this strongly with the celebrity” category:
[name_f]Mariah[/name_f]
[name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Billie[/name_f]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]

“I know who you mean but it’s not an issue at all” category:
[name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlet[/name_f]
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]

“Who are you talking about?” category:
[name_f]Solange[/name_f]

The only name I exclusively associate with a celebrity is [name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]. All the others, I consider them common girl names in different generations and languages, which I associate with multiple people, including non-celebrities who I’ve come across in life.

I don’t even know who some of these are meant to be referring to  Scarlet? Adriana? Alba? Sabrina Carpenter is the 4th Sabrina that comes to my mind when I hear the name (I assume from the other names on your list that that’s who you’re referencing). I definitely wouldn’t think of Sabrina or either of the previous three names as a “celebrity name” in any sense. They’re just normal names.

Mariah I think is very Carey, to the extent that a Mariah may get some jokes about it when introducing herself, but I still think it’s usable since it’s such a classic name. I wouldn’t assume she was named after the singer or anything like that.

Other than Mariah, which I still think is 100% usable (but with the expectation that the singer would maybe get mentioned sometimes) the only one I don’t think could be used is Rihanna. I’d assume the celebrity association was intentional. I think if you spelt it Riana / Rianna though it could work!

names I associate strongly with the artist:
[name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f]
[name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Solange[/name_f] - however, I feel like this is a me thing because of my age, and others might not feel the same

names I think are fine/not too attached to anyone:
[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] - makes me think of [name_m]Carey[/name_m], but it doesn’t feel too attached at all
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Billie[/name_f] - I’d think of [name_f]Eilish[/name_f], but only when hearing the name, not when meeting someone with the name
[name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] - is this supposed to be Johansson? I never think of her when hearing the name!!
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f] - unsure who this is referring to :joy: [name_f]Lima[/name_f]?
[name_f]Alba[/name_f] - if someone asked my association with the name, I might think of [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], otherwise it wouldn’t come to mind

however, I wouldn’t be surprised to meet anyone with any of these names except [name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]! I’d say I’d probably assume a [name_f]Rihanna[/name_f] was named after the singer, and I feel the association is very strong (like [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f], [name_f]Madonna[/name_f], etc). All of the other names seem perfectly usable to me!

the rest don’t make me think of anyone in particular, although i know who many of the celebrities you’re referring to are!

[name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] → I know quite a number of Aaliyahs - it’s fairly well used where I am, plus in the US it’s been popular for years so I think you’re good

[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] → you might get a few [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_m]Carey[/name_m] comments especially around [name_m]Christmas[/name_m], but I don’t think the association is too overwhelming - like I wouldn’t meet a [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] and be unable to not think of the singer?

[name_f]Rihanna[/name_f] → I’ve met several Rihannas  I would think of the singer but I wouldn’t find the link overwhelming? It sounds enough like other names - [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_f]Brianna[/name_f] - and is a legitimate, well established Arabic name :person_shrugging:

[name_f]Solange[/name_f] → [name_f]Solange[/name_f] is gorgeous! Is it terrible I don’t know who the famous person you’re thinking of it is…I get the feeling it might be Beyonce’s sister - or a singer in her own right? I think of a book character (based on a real person, [name_m]George[/name_m] Sands’ daughter) but I think it’s usable

[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] → well used enough that it’s not a one person name

[name_f]Billie[/name_f] → same as above. There’s been multiple famous Billies and it’s currently trending in the UK, US, [name_f]France[/name_f] and Belgium so I think you’re good

[name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] → the [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] spelling might be more versatile, but again, it’s a popular name. I think it’s all good to use and I wouldn’t associate it with one person (not sure who you’re thinking about either!)

[name_f]Adriana[/name_f] → as above, I’m not sure which [name_f]Adriana[/name_f] you’d be thinking of. I find it perfectly usable and I’d known of a couple

[name_f]Alba[/name_f] → same as above - it’s a well-used name - I know a little [name_f]Alba[/name_f] - so I think it’s all good to use.

Ones I feel are very strongly associated with the celebrity -

[name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] - though I think this one is still useable due to being in the [name_f]Mary[/name_f] family - it doesn’t feel utterly distinct purely as [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_m]Carey[/name_m], though it would defs immediately spring to mind.
[name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Solange[/name_f] - though I think this one is still useable - as Beyoncé’s sister she’s sort of overshadowed despite being successful in her own right. It’s a name that’s used widely enough in other cultures.

The others I don’t associate strongly enough with a celebrity to warrant them being unusable, at all. In fact in some cases I don’t even know who they reference.

So in summary, the only ones I would defs stay clear of are [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] and to a greater extent [name_f]Rihanna[/name_f].

The only two in the unusable category IMO are [name_f]Rihanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Solange[/name_f]. The others are classic enough names that aren’t tied to one person.

I think every name is fine except for [name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]. Not going to lie, if I heard that name in real life, I would assume they were named after the singer. It’s in a similar category to [name_f]Zendaya[/name_f] and [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f].

[name_f]Every[/name_f] other name was/is fairly popular without the celebrity association.
