Celek?

What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Celek[/name_f]? I’m thinking of this name for a book character, but I’m wondering: what kind of girl would [name_f]Celek[/name_f] be?

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was, is that even a name? It’s in the NB database so apparently it is, it’s a variant of [name_f]Selena[/name_f], but I can imagine lots of people wondering if it’s made up. It sounds rather masculine, the ending reminding me of [name_m]Eric[/name_m] and [name_m]Derek[/name_m]. And it reminds me of celery.

I’d go with Céline or [name_f]Celina[/name_f]/[name_f]Selena[/name_f].

I’m not sure how to pronounce it… I want to say Sell-ak?? Regardless of whether that is correct or incorrect, it makes me think of Celery and Celeriac so I picture a tall girl with big hair, fairly plain and uninspiring. Like human celery haha.

If you were to use it in a book I think you’d have (not all, but) the majority of your readers stumped at the pronunciation, much like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. It was only when the movies came out that most people worked out how to say [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] properly!
