I am thinking about the name [name]Celeste[/name] and I see that it had an unusual spike in popularity in 2004, particularly in the southwest US border states. Then it went right back down in popularity.
Can anyone tell me any ideas why this name would have shot up for that one year? Was there a famous [name]Celeste[/name] that I don’t know of who did something awesome that year?
That spike affected the whole nation at least a little bit, it looks like.
I googled around - in 2004 there was a 4-episode story arc on the HBO show Six Feet Under involving a short-term character, a pop singer, named [name]Celeste[/name], played by [name]Michelle[/name] van Trachtenberg. Quick reading on wikipedia suggests the character wasn’t really a great role model, but, you know, maybe it just go the name in people’s ears, and that’s what mattered.
I bet that’s it based on timing - as to why SW more than elsewhere - maybe because the show is set in LA?
I think I have figured it out! In 2003 a telenovela featuring a gorgeous main character named [name]Celeste[/name] was aired on Univision. Their target audience was Mexican Americans hence the border states.
