[name]Do[/name] you like the name [name]Chance[/name]? My 11 month old boy is named [name]Chance[/name] [name]Dean[/name] and I’ve since had name remorse only because I hear the word a lot in everyday conversation. I don’t know if it’s just that I pay more attention now or what but it bothers me because of that. I like the name if it wasn’t for that and my husband loves the name still. Is it going to weird for him when he gets older to have a name that is also commonly used as a word?
Since you love the name, stick with it! Think of common names like [name]John[/name] and [name]Mark[/name] - both are also common words (and at least [name]Chance[/name] doesn’t mean “bathroom”). I actually hope to have a [name]John[/name] someday, but it’s one of those context things. When a pal calls, “Hey, [name]Chance[/name]!” he won’t be thinking “Hey, opportunity!” - he’ll be thinking of your son
I say stick with it! You probably do focus on it more, now that it’s your son’s name, and plenty of other word names are well used in every day life - just think of all of the Patiences and Hopes out there.
[name]Chance[/name] is such a sweet, handsome, happy-go-lucky name; the more I think about it, the more I love it, and I think you’ve chosen a great name.

I dated a guy named [name]Chance[/name] for about 18 months and it really suited him. He was a very confident and cool guy.
Thank you for the nice comments! You’ve all made some very good points and I appreciate the feedback!
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Chance[/name]! I hope to meet a little boy named [name]Chance[/name] someday. I agree with everything other have already brought up. There are tons of names that you hear in life as part of daily conversation. My name is actually a very commonly used verb, so I hear it all the time and it never bothers me. Once in a while I hear it in conversation and do a double take, but it honestly isn’t a big deal at all. My sister’s name rhymes with a VERY common word, and even that throws her off sometimes (simply hearing the prominent sound in her name), so you really can’t win, anyway LOL
I would just let it go, the name [name]Chance[/name] will never be a burden for him. Be proud of his name without hesitation…it is a great name!
gigi22–Thank you so much for your reply. I definitely WANT to be 100% confident and proud of the name but I’m so caught up in thinking I chose the wrong name that I can’t focus on anything else. When people ask me his name, I’m totally not confident because I automatically think they are going to think it’s dumb or they won’t like it. I want my doubt to go away but I’m starting to wonder if it ever will.
You mentioned that you hope to meet a little boy named [name]Chance[/name] someday…do you think of it as a little boy’s name? [name]Do[/name] you think it will sound well on a grown man? I have never known anyone named [name]Chance[/name] or hadn’t really heard the name used before but when we saw it in the name lists, it just stuck for us. It means “opportunity” and “luck” and he was just that for us. The name was simple, easy to say, and easy to spell which were all criteria we wanted to meet.
You chose one of my favorite names for your little boy! I know a few [name]Chance[/name]'s. I grew up with one, and it’s a handsome name for a man! I know a 17-year-old named [name]Chance[/name] who is the handsome jock type, and an 8-year-old who is smart and witty and charming as all get out. I think it will rise in popularity thanks to the likes of [name]Greyson[/name] [name]Chance[/name] and [name]Chance[/name] [name]King[/name], but I don’t think it will ever be ultra popular because it is a common word, which is great! I love that it means blessed and good fortune! And I love that it’s chalk full of personality. In “The [name]Baby[/name] Name [name]Wizard[/name],” [name]Laura[/name] Wattenberg describes it like this, " Like [name]Maverick[/name], [name]Chance[/name] is a lone gunman, following the wind and seeking adventure on his own terms. Unlike [name]Maverick[/name], [name]Chance[/name] also has a softer side, a reflection of prep school names like [name]Chauncey[/name] and [name]Trey[/name]. That unlikely combination is a winner, making [name]Chance[/name] the top Modern Meaning name for boys." I love it! He will too! Good choice!
[name]Chance[/name] [name]Dean[/name] is an extraordinary name! It has a lovely sound to it, I think you made a great choice. The name [name]Chance[/name] is actually very new to me, but I was immediately intrigued by it. There is a teenage boy who works at a local restaurant with the name and I first came across it/him about a month or two ago and of course I am embarassing and asked how he liked it. He said he always thought it was a pretty unique name and enjoyed it growing up. If it helps he is an incredibly polite and charismatic boy who always has a smile on his face, so I can’t help but feel that the name is as happy-go-lucky as they come and your little one is getting a great name! =]
I always loved [name]Chance[/name]! I knew a Chanse [like this] in school and always thought his name was neat.
