I have for many years been a devout fan of long names with nicknames. They could be any sort of long names really, classic ([name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Catherine[/name]) fusty ([name]Philippa[/name], [name]Wilhelmina[/name]), fashionable ([name]Aurelia[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name]) but recently, I find myself adding only short names to my lists. I’ve become obsessed with names [name]Faye[/name], [name]Fleur[/name], [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Clio[/name], [name]Oona[/name], [name]Ada[/name], etc.
[name]Just[/name] wondering if I’m the only one? Of course I still like longer names, but at the moment I see such charm in shorter ones that I can’t shake the attachment!
Nope! I don’t think I could ever pinpoint one or two styles of names that I love anymore. Classic, Vintage, Funky, Modern, Trendy, Hipster. W/E! I love a lot of names and they’re all over the board :). I’m pretty sure we are not alone.
I’ve kind of gone the opposite way that all my girls names are no long, frilly and with plenty of nicknames available. I think since using this site I’ve found more and more long names that are so beautiful and that I’d never have thought of before. Before using this site I used to have names such as [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Isla[/name] etc. on my list but now I’m all about [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Jemima[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Clementine[/name] etc. Although having said that I’ve got [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Esther[/name] and [name]Autumn[/name] which are a little shorter.
My boys names used to all long; [name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Zachary[/name]. However, that’s now a little more mixed with [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Maddox[/name] etc.
My style has completely changed over time. I’ve had 3 kids over the lasr 7 years and each time I’ve pulled out my old name list and thought ‘what was I thinking?’ LOL.
Only a very small list of classics has remained constant and most of my more unusual crushes seem to go by the wayside after a couple of years.
In particular I’ve shifted away from ‘a’ endings towards more simplified ones eg 5 years ago [name]Eva[/name] now [name]Eve[/name]. For boys a shift from the old to new testaments, then [name]Levi[/name] now [name]Luke[/name] IYKWIM.
You’re definitely not alone! haha. My style before I joined naming forums was along the lines of [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Emerson[/name], [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Delaney[/name], [name]Ashlyn[/name], etc. for girls, and now it’s [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], etc. Still all fairly popular, but they seem a lot more timeless to me, and are more cohesive in style, and they’re all more similar in length. My style hasn’t really changed since I joined Nameberry, other than that it’s given me courage to use more out-there names. I never would have used [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Daphne[/name] before I joined this site, haha. I’m still not very adventurous, but I’m more willing to use adventurous MNs…
My tastes have changed over the years. A normal part of growing older-the only constant in life is change. Forums don’t generally change my view on names I already like or dislike but they certainly expose me to names I wouldn’t have known about otherwise.
Pre marriage and children my boy names were pretty much the ones I still love now, but my girl list had many unisex names like [name]Devyn[/name], [name]Jordan[/name], [name]Drew[/name], etc. Now I love girl names that you read and there’s no doubt it is ONLY a girl’s name. I think my taste changed a bit as I had 3 boys before having a daughter. I wanted pink and girly by then.
