Sorry if this forum is flooded with these types of posts… I’m set on changing my surname due to the fact that I have no blood-ties to the name (my dad’s step father’s name), and it makes my initials “[name]ADD[/name].” It doesn’t bother my family and have even been encouraged by a few. I have little connection to all other family names and don’t want to take a husbands name.
I’m just hoping to get some opinions/suggestions for a surname to go with “[name]Ashley[/name] [name]Dawn[/name] ___”
I like nature references if you have ideas
Here’s a few a like: (As you can tell I like names that end in “son”)
[name]Grayson[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Jameson[/name]
[name]Emerson[/name]
[name]Winters[/name]
[name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Leighton[/name]
I would possibly skip one beginning with L, it seems a little tongue twister with [name]Ashley[/name]. I quite like [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Winters[/name].
If I was changing my surname for the reason you describe, I would try to pick a meaningful surname that has a connection to your family. Perhaps your mother’s maiden name?
I understand wanting to drop a surname that you have no blood ties to. What I don’t understand is dropping a surname for that reason and then changing it to another name that you have no blood ties to. I definitely second the suggestion of choosing a family surname. Have you ever done any type of family history research? Perhaps doing that would help you to feel more connected to a side of your family.
I’m currently in the process of changing my name, as I also have no blood ties (or emotional ties) to mine and I am changing to a family name from my mom’s side. The process is kind of a pain, so to me it seems more “worth it” to get a name that does have personal meaning for me. It also will be easier to explain, both in the name change hearing and just in general if anyone asks. It’s your business what name you want to apply for, but I think some family name, even if it’s a few generations back, would be more fulfilling.
