Thoughts on [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] (Clah-ra) and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] (yes, you do pronounce the o and no I can’t change the spelling to [name_f]Leonore[/name_f])? I like them quite much, so if you really hate either, I woudn’t mind if you kept it to yourself and just commented on the flow or the imagery or how they fit in with the other girl combos
I like both, particularly [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]! That’s very gorgeous, and this is big for me to say because I normally can’t stand any name with ‘nor’ in it. But this is really sparkling. I’m only ho-hum about [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I’m not a huge fan of either name, and the flow is fine, but it seems rather plain next to [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f].
Okay, I thought about it more. I love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as a combo, but neither are my favorites by themselves. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is a tad overused, though it is dear, and I’ve always considered the [name_f]Claire[/name_f] family plain. But they sound great together! [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] sounds even better, in my opinion.
On the other hand, [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is also gorgeous. I love both [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]. The Spanish/[name_m]German[/name_m] funk is spectacular, but I can’t help but feel that it’s an awkward pair. They have such different feels to me, though I really love both.
So [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is my favorite. However, they are both lovely. There are my two cents!
I like them a lot, actually! My only concern is that with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] sort of tames down [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] even more, and [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] spices up [name_f]Ada[/name_f] even more. So compared to what they once were originally, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] seems significantly less exciting to me. That’s not a bad thing, though. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] are still really fantastic combos!
Gorgeous combos! I particularly love [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], which is kind of surprising to me because it’s certainly not my style. Something about this combo is just really gorgeous and darling! I love it! [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is stunning! [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is such a lovely addition to the strong [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]!
@trina14 thank you very much. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is the combo I’m least certain about, so it’s great to hear such lovely positive feedback!
@simonekadele Are you in the US? [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] seems to be rather trendy there which leads to many people seeing it as a modern instead of a vintage name, which it very much still is here (and in most other parts of Europe).
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] I pronounce Clah-ra, not sure if that makes a difference to you or not but I added it to my first post. [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as in [name_f]Claira[/name_f] are both not for me, I’m just not big on the air sound, I think.
It’s nice to hear that you still like the combo, though, even if the names are not for you (that’s pretty much the best combo compliment you can hope for:)).
I’ve been wondering if [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] would clash and from your comment I’m not sure if you like the combo or not but for me they add something “exciting” to each other. If I went with [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] (I can’t, the -e isn’t silent in [name_m]German[/name_m]), the combo would feel better matched, yes, but somehow also safer and less interesting.
Thanks [name_u]Ash[/name_u]! I always appreciate your input
I think for me, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is the wilder one of the two, which is why I always preferred a more down-to-earth name with it (hence the reason I’ve had [name_f]Ada[/name_f] in there before) while [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is the tame, earthy one that could do with a little extra spark (she doesn’t need it but a little extra sparkle hurts no one and no name)
@birchwood29 thank you for your lovely comment. It’s so nice to hear such positive feedback!
I love both. Especially [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]! Beautiful combos!
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is very pretty.
I’m in the UK and I’ve only ever heard of 1 [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] in real life (my mum’s friend when I was little) - so it’s definitely not trendy here! Very vintagey, I would say, for both choices. I love them both!
I really like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], I think the flow is spot on and both names are unusual and elegant yet not frilly or trying too hard- a really nice combo!
I like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] too and it had a nice flow, but I don’t know, it doesn’t seems as special as [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]
I really like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]. [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] has been a favourite of mine for quite a while, although sat on the back burner.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is nice too and has a good flow, I’ve just never been a fan of names where I feel they should be the other way around (so [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]). Saying this, I prefer [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] a ton more.
I meant on Nameberry… I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is vintage, and it used to be one of my favorites, but it isn’t anything new around here. (Although I’ve only ever met one Penelope, and I don’t know her very well at all.)
I actually do love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] when pronounced CLAH-ruh, but I would spell that [name_f]Klara[/name_f]. (I know a Klara, actually!) I do like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], but it does clash a little.
There are few names I like with a K instead of a C and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] isn’t really one of them. It just feels a lot less classic, more childish and overall harder to me, even though it is a common spelling here.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think you would prefer the look/vibe of [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f]?
Thank You
I love both, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f], but slightly prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f] as a first name, which means that [name_f]Clara[/name_f] can add some extra beauty in the middle name spot.
I see where you’re coming from with the “other way around” thing, I think it’s probably that the light-ending name is the second one, so it doesn’t “round off” the combo but leaves you hanging a bit (and short first name + long middle name seems to be more natural, but you can’t get much longer than [name_f]Penelope[/name_f])?! I feel like this “problem” solves itself once you add a last name; my last name ends in -g so it rounds the name off pretty well.
(gosh, I feel like I’m just blabbering, I hope you understand what I mean)
I love [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], too, the whole name family is gorgeous.
I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is unexpected while [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is a bit more “these make sense together”, so I see your point. However, for some reason I really love the imagery that [name_f]Clara[/name_f] adds to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], the name seems so elegant and vintage to me, the latter I felt [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] was loosing a bit.
Thank You
I’m glad that [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] hasn’t lost it’s vintage touch in Europe!
Very lovely! I adore [name_f]Ada[/name_f] but find my American tongue tripping up on the pronunciation of [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]. That’s probably just me, though
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is really pretty, and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] even prettier! As always, love your style
Both are okay, although I really like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f].
Thanks!
I know you weirdos over there never want to pronounce any Os :p. So if someone were to say Ada Lenore by accident, I wouldn’t mind it.
(I commented earlier that the whole -air- sound is not really for me, so while Claire is pretty, I wouldn’t use it).
Does okay mean good but you don’t like the names as much or does it mean they’re fine combos but “you could do better, combination-wise”? Either way, thank you for commenting
I think both are really pretty, but I don’t like [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and the name [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is so pretty (I prefer [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Leora[/name_f], but [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is nice too). I think they go well with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Flora[/name_f] combos!
I do agree with PP about [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] feeling a bit more special, but that said, I would rather be named [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] than [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f].
