Our first daughter is one month today and I feel like I chose the wrong name;
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f].
It’s definitely cute and all the dads and grandpas seem to loooove her name but I just don’t feel it’s right. We decided on [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] the last week I was pregnant.
Because we live and play in Idaho and [name_u]Montana[/name_u] I feel our only girl should have a little outdoorsy edge to her as opposed to southern sweet. These are names I’m considering and have always loved:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Meryl[/name_f]
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Lolo[/name_f]
[name_f]Elke[/name_f] ([name_f]Elka[/name_f])
[name_f]Marit[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (aggie)
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] (prob would never use)
Lastname sounds like “ohmiss”
Really need to make a decision I don’t want to lead on the other kids any longer!
Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time!
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is my favorite! Would you be dropping [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] entirely? Or giving her a double mn?
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f]
or
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]?
You sound very sure that you don’t like her fn rn, and I think if you wait too long you will lose the will to change her name. My advice is now or never basically!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m], congrats on your new baby girl!
I’m sorry you’re struggling with your decision about her name! I love [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]! It does sound a little Southern but for what it’s worth I think of Southern ladies as being strong and edgy!
I’m thinking you’re feeling disconnected from the name because you decided on it so late in the game. I hope you find some peace with it soon (whether you change it or not!).
My opinions on your other names are as follows:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - cute! [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f] sounds pretty southern to me too
[name_f]Meryl[/name_f] - a little harsh sounding to me
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f] - this one is ok to me, not really my style
[name_f]Lolo[/name_f] - I dislike this, sounds like a cutesie nickname
[name_f]Elke[/name_f] ([name_f]Elka[/name_f]) - I like this but you’ll probably struggle with pronunciation issues in the US
[name_f]Marit[/name_f] - I like this
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (aggie) - this is ok
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] (prob would never use) - can’t like because of The Office
Have you considered [name_f]Georgette[/name_f]? It is similar to [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] with a little more “grit”. Perhaps you could call her [name_u]Jet[/name_u]?
I love [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]! If you can’t bring yourself to love it though, from your list I like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] best. Have you thought of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], or [name_u]Wren[/name_u]? Those are the types of names that sound outdoorsy to me. Anyway, good luck! Sorry you’re having a difficult time!
I do love [name_f]Marit[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u].
Yeah there are actually quite a few [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]'s in our small town that I just discovered. My barista, a little one in my sons class, a friends aunt…
My sons names are [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_m]Forest[/name_m] if it makes a diff.
I’m Scandinavian so I like harsher sounding names (at least English pronunciation wise)
I like [name_f]Elke[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]! [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is cute though. Maybe a nickname? [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]? Name regret is hard, I struggled after two of my kids. [name_u]Love[/name_u] their names now though.
Georgia May is pretty, but I agree with you that it has a very southern sweet feel. If that doesn’t feel right for you, I like Ruby, Marit & Astrid best from your list. I love Elias & Forest. Have you considered Sylvie? It means from the forest or woodland. We live in the mountains & it’s one of my favorites. Juniper (June, Juno or Junie) or Magnolia (Nola) are two nature names I really like. Some others that I like with Elias & Forest:
Sonia - wisdom
Arden - valley of the eagle
Daphne - Laurel tree, bay tree
Rosalie
Maeve
Mira
Gwendolyn/Gwen
Quinn
Mara/Maura
Camille (Calla)
Fiona
Clea
Estella (Stella) - Estelle means star
Neve - snow
Shea
Vera
Elowen (Lolo) - Elm
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is gorgeous! I think using [name_u]Georgie[/name_u], [name_m]Geo[/name_m], or [name_f]Gem[/name_f] (using her first and middle GEorgia May) could make cute and more outdoorsy sounding nicknames. The origins of [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are Greek meaning “tiller of the soil” or “farmer”. A name meaning doesn’t get more outdoorsy than that! All the best!
Thanks guys! I really do like sylvie, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Solveig[/name_f] which is Norwegian but I didn’t use it because my husband was uncomfortable with the pronunciation lol! [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] would be a good alternative.
I’d say most of the nature names are taken by friends or family; [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]…pretty much every tree, shrub and flower you could think of!
I know [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is a perfect name for a little girl, just not my little girl:)
