[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] sisters name is currently [name_f]Alice[/name_f] but we will be changing it soon. She is under 1 so the change shouldn’t be a huge deal but she does sort of know her name so we are looking for options easy to transition to. We don’t actually dislike [name_f]Alice[/name_f] but are changing it for safety and privacy purposes. Siblings are [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_u]Wilson[/name_u] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f].
Some ideas we’ve had
[name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]: We call her [name_u]Allie[/name_u] so we could keep her nick name. [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] also has some family connections, but we don’t totally love the name and if feels a bit out of place/too modern with the sibset
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]: We could easily transition to this by calling her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Allie[/name_u], and we sometimes call her [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] as well so we could still call her that or [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f]. However, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] feels a bit more formal than the rest of our names and still isn’t our total favorite
[name_u]Josie[/name_u]: We really like this one but it would be harder to transition to and my little sisters middle name starts with “Jo” and we sometimes call her [name_u]Jo[/name_u] for short so it would get confusing
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]: We could transition to call her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Allie[/name_u], and it seems to fit the sibset well. It’s one of our higher favorites but we aren’t settled on it. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom is a bit put off by how popular it is
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]: [name_f]My[/name_f] mom and I love this one and think it fits the sibset well, but it would be harder to transition to and my dad doesn’t love it
Any thoughts on these options as well as other suggestions would be so appreciated!!!
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] or [name_f]Alison[/name_f] would be easy transitions from [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
[name_f]Clarice[/name_f] is probably out of place in the sibset, but contains all Alice’s letters.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - since you already call her [name_f]Lissy[/name_f].
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] or Ella?Or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]? All with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nn.
Other [name_m]Al[/name_m]- names since you call her [name_u]Allie[/name_u]: [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], [name_f]Alina[/name_f], [name_f]Althea[/name_f], [name_f]Alana[/name_f] …
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is related to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and could also have [name_u]Allie[/name_u] as a nn. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is another option.
Of yours, I’d probably go with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
Other uncommon yet fits well with the sibset/isn’t too modern:
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] “Allie or Lexi” but it might be too long with the sibset
Elise–super close to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in pronunciation
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_u]Allison[/name_u]
[name_f]Alondra[/name_f]
Ones a bit different:
[name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurel[/name_u]
[name_f]Therese[/name_f]
[name_f]Helene[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
Of the options you’ve listed, I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] sounds like the winner.
[name_f]My[/name_f] suggestion would be [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. I think it shares enough sounds with [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and could use the nickname [name_u]Allie[/name_u] still even if it’s a tad stretchy. It also seems to fit the style of [name_u]Josie[/name_u] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f], while staying closer to [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] the best - it is popular but [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] are well established too - and I think it really goes well with the group (storybook names). Otherwise, I’d go for Elizabeth/ [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (I prefer S spelling and it might be nice with S after [name_f]Alice[/name_f] soft sound). I don’t think it’s too formal.
I wouldn’t use [name_f]Flora[/name_f], different if she were under 6 months but by now she’s identified with that name and drastically changing it could be quite damaging to sense of self long term (it might be absolutely fine but wouldn’t take the risk - it’s different if she were 12 and asking to change it). [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] doesn’t go as well with the other names and I don’t love this name but if it works best it is probably the easiest leap.
Other options:
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] (Ellie/Ellis to Elise)
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (via Ellie)
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (via Ellie)
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] (the [name_f]Alissia[/name_f] pronunciation- you can just use [name_f]Alissia[/name_f] if that’s easier)
Btw, and could be way off, you may want to delete this thread after a certain amount of time if providing all siblings’ names is a privacy risk for your sister’s situation.
You could go with [name_f]Opal[/name_f] it has the al sound albeit at the end so she could still go by [name_f]Ally[/name_f] its a vintage name that works well with the sibset too…
Other [name_f]Ally[/name_f] nn options:
[name_f]Alvira[/name_f]
[name_f]Alita[/name_f]
[name_f]Alana[/name_f]
[name_f]Alaya[/name_f]
[name_u]Alma[/name_u]
[name_f]Alinta[/name_f]
If you think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is too formal, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is also stunning if you like it and gives you the same nicknames as [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] if you want
From the current list, I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] the most. Might be popular but also classic (and I’d argue [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is even more popular than Eleanor).
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] - gotta second this
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] - anagram of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and it means heavenly.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - a virtue like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and you can get [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] for a nickname
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Liesl[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexia[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f]
