I would like to start going by my middle name ([name_f]Augustine[/name_f]) or a variant thereof before starting university. I don’t find that my current name suits me very well, and I prefer something more sophisticated and regal sounding (feminine but not girly). I’m half [name_m]German[/name_m], and [name_u]August[/name_u] variants are family names.
[name_f]Augustine[/name_f] (AU-gus-teen) - I like this name, but I’m worried people will think its masculine, even though the pronunciation is different (It is also a female name in Germany and [name_f]France[/name_f]). I also don’t know if the perception is different with younger people who might not be as familiar with the name. I do think it sounds quite pretty though.
[name_u]Auguste[/name_u] - This one is pretty close to [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], and I believe this is a family name. I like the [name_m]German[/name_m] pronunciation, but I’m not sure how well it carries over to English.
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] - Definitely a female name. It seems a lot of people seem to either find it very elegant sounding, or very masculine (because of the gus sound).
[name_f]Augustina[/name_f] - I’m not sure about this one. It won’t be mixed up for a male name, but it also verges on girly sounding. It is also quite long, and I’m not a big fan of it’s nicknames.
It would be really helpful if you could let me know how you picture someone with each of these names as well as any other opinions you may have. Thanks in advance!
