Changing My Name

Is there anyway I can delete this thread? I realized that if you google my name you can find it :frowning:

Hey! If you’re still looking for advice, here are some ideas. I decided to work off of “Margrethe/[name]Margaret[/name]”, since you mentioned that as a potential similar or related name to the one you’re searching for. [name]Margaret[/name] has TONS of variations, and one might suit your fancy  Here are some that I think work with Gelb:

[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
Maarit
[name]Marjorie[/name]
[name]Marketa[/name]
[name]Meta[/name]/[name]Mette[/name]
[name]Midge[/name]

All of these are probably more distinctive than [name]Megan[/name] in your age group and are also a little bit more quirky and old-fashioned/vintage. I think [name]Marketa[/name], [name]Margot[/name], or [name]Midge[/name] might be fun choices!

Here are a few ideas that have a similar feel to [name]Megan[/name] but might be more distinctive:
Liadan
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Maribel[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Fallon[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Fionnuala[/name]/[name]Finola[/name]
[name]Rory[/name]
[name]Mina[/name]

I personally think [name]Margot[/name] or [name]Mabel[/name] would be fabulous choices. They are both less common in your age group, both vintage and kind of artsy/quirky choices, and they’re still similar to [name]Megan[/name] so it wouldn’t be a huge switch.

Also, just thought I’d mention, a peer a few years older than me legally changed her name at the same age as you when she went into college. She had been [name]Alex[/name], but changed to [name]Cordelia[/name]. It suits her much, much better. [name]Just[/name] figured I’d throw that out there!

Best of luck and really hope this helps,
[name]America[/name]

Hey! You’re in the same boat as me…well not exactly, but I am changing my name also. =P

Okay, so your name “is” [name]Megan[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] G—
[name]Do[/name] you plan on changing your middlename?
If so, then I [name]Megan[/name] [name]Rose[/name] G— is nice, but the [name]Megan[/name] G— is still a bit harsh.

You can do, [name]Melissa[/name] [name]Rose[/name] G—. I like that, or! You can do Melrose G—. Middle name could be [name]Elizabeth[/name] or if you like you can take your grandmother’s name of [name]Jane[/name], Melrose [name]Jane[/name] G—.

If you like, you can steal my mom’s name! [name]Marjorie[/name] [name]Dawn[/name]. [name]Marjorie[/name] [name]Dawn[/name] G–b sounds nice.

I’m not sure what kind of names you like, so it’s hard for me to pick. Idk if you like more modern names like [name]Ariana[/name], or old fashioned like [name]Margaret[/name] etc.

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Megan[/name]-for-now

A previous poster suggested [name]Maeve[/name]. It’s Irish, and means “She who intoxicates.” I think it’s a beautiful name, and could very well suit your looks and personality! At least, you are how I picture someone named [name]Maeve[/name]. [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Gelb. It’s not too far from [name]Megan[/name], so it will probably be easier for your family and friends to adjust.

[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Maeve[/name] or any of the other suggestions that have been given? Or do you think you need some more? If so, I’ll try to come up with some!

Starting with M
[name]Marisol[/name] ([name]Mari[/name])
[name]Margo[/name]
Marzina
[name]Maci[/name]
[name]Mariel[/name]
[name]Minka[/name]
M’[name]Kenzie[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Makell[/name]

Ending with [name]GAN[/name]:
[name]Teagan[/name]
[name]Madigan[/name]
[name]Merrigan[/name]
[name]Raegan[/name]

Combo:
[name]Maybeth[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] guys! Thanks for all your answers. Sorry I didn’t reply yet to be honest I sort of forgot I made this thread. I really like some of your suggestions, a lot of them are along the lines what I was thinking but for some reason I still feel a bit apprehensive. I guess it is a pretty big change to make even though it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I really like the suggestion of [name]Midge[/name], I think its really cute  but I’m not sure what kind personality the name is. What do you think when you hear it? If I went that route, I would change my first name legally to [name]Margaret[/name] and have [name]Midge[/name] as a nn. I also like [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Greta[/name] as well. I like [name]Margo[/name] but I think it’s too close to the name of a family friend. I do really like the idea of using [name]Margaret[/name] since both my name and my grandmother’s name ([name]Peggy[/name] [name]Jane[/name]) are diminutives of it, and that’s the only thing I ever really liked about my name as I feel it gives me a special bond to her. Which is also why I considered changing my middle to [name]Jane[/name] as well. Although if I kept it [name]Elizabeth[/name] my initials would still be [name]MEG[/name], another connection to my old name. But I think maybe [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] sounds a bit too old fashioned?? I also like the suggestion of [name]Mabel[/name], and maybe [name]Maeve[/name] (I haven’t decided on that one yet :P). I also like [name]Magnolia[/name] but I think that it might be a bit much. So of these what do you think:

  • [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Midge[/name]
  • [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] nn [name]Midge[/name]
  • [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Greta[/name]
  • [name]Margaret[/name] nn something else :stuck_out_tongue:
  • [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
  • [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
  • [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
  • [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
  • [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
  • something else entirely???

Thanks again for your help guys  And sorry for being so all over the place but I want to be really sure I make the right choice!
Oh and by the way I think someone asked what kind of names I like. I tend to go for quirky name or ones that feel a little bit dusty, the names in my signature should give you an idea

I think [name]Midge[/name] sounds like either a nickname for a toddler or for a really funky adult kid-at-heart kinda person. It does remind me of midget, but not in a bad way - in more of a teasing nickname kinda way. I love [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], especially the latter. I think [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Gelb flows very nicely, and you still get [name]MEG[/name] as your initials

I know how you feel- my name is [name]Lyndsey[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and I’ve changed it twice in three years. I went by [name]Lyn[/name] in college instead of [name]Lyndsey[/name] and now in grad school (and forever) I’m going by [name]Rose[/name], however the majority of people who know me as [name]Lyn[/name] or [name]Lyndsey[/name] refuse to change and call me [name]Rose[/name] lol. I like [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Rose[/name], nicknamed [name]Greta[/name].

I’m loving [name]Mabel[/name] myself, so I’ll vote for that one. [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is my favorite combo of those you gave, with [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] being a close second.

I like [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], nn [name]Greta[/name] or [name]Margo[/name]. Have you thought of using [name]Maisie[/name] as nn for [name]Margaret[/name]?

I like [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] especially because of the connection to your grandmother.

I really like [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] Gelb

Some more suggestions;

[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Elsa[/name] Gelb
[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Gelb
[name]Marta[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Gelb
or what about [name]Meg[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Gelb?

It might just be how it sounds when I say it, but I don’t find [name]Margaret[/name] Gelb and [name]Mabel[/name] Gelb to be any less “harsh” sounding due to G’s and B’s than [name]Megan[/name] Gelb. That said, I do like [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Rose[/name] best and your nickname potential is endless. Good luck.

Why not just keep your name and go by [name]Meg[/name]?

Have you considered going by one of the many nicknames for [name]Elizabeth[/name]? Personally, I’m fond of [name]Betsy[/name], [name]Libby[/name], Liddy, [name]Eliza[/name] ([name]Eliza[/name] Gelb sounds really good I think!)

You wouldn’t have to change your name (except for your last name changing legally). It might be much easier for those who are close to you (since it’s a variation of your given middle name). [name]Just[/name] a thought!

Wow lots of replies! Thanks guys  So I was thinking it over and after reading nmp233’s post I think your right. I guess I hadn’t really said any of those options aloud to my self. Also as far as not changing my name and going by [name]Meg[/name]; obviously that would be the easiest option, but I’ve never really liked being called [name]Meg[/name] and the only person that ever called me that was a teacher who I really did not like :/. I honestly think think that for me, changing my name would be the best option. It’s not as if this has been a rash decision, this is what I’ve always wanted to do. My family is on board, but they can still call me [name]Megan[/name] if they want to. As far as my friends, I’ll won’t really be seeing any of them after we all move away to different colleges. And to be honest there are some other personal reasons I don’t really feel like sharing with the internet :stuck_out_tongue: So for me this is right, and I know some people won’t understand that but oh well… And I still have over a year to change my mind if I really want to.

So anyway, short rant over  back to business. @bostonlover Ya actually, that was one of my options in the first post. I really like [name]Eliza[/name] or just [name]Liza[/name]. I think I still might want to change my name legally though. I wouldn’t be an extra hassle since I have to change my name anyway. So what do you think about these:

*[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
*[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Eliza[/name] or [name]Liza[/name]
Or maybe if I still wanted to use [name]Jane[/name]
*[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
*[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (but that one is maybe too long?)
*Or some other combo :stuck_out_tongue: I just want to make sure I consider all my options

I realize with all of these options you still have the g’s running together, but since its the middle maybe it doesn’t matter so much?? Let me know what you think  and thanks again!

I think [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] would both be gorgeous! Having said that, [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] ([name]Jane[/name]) is lovely too, and gives you tons of nickname potential! I’m a sucker for nicknames, so I’d pick [name]Elizabeth[/name], then you can go by [name]Eliza[/name] or any of the other various nicknames if you wish!

I’d second romanticism’s opinion of going with [name]Elizabeth[/name] (you can always stay with [name]Eliza[/name] as your nn, but over time you’d have lots of other options as well). [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] both sound great!

I’m actually considering changing my middle name and using my new mn as my nickname (probably just as I meet new people, I’m a new mom so we’ll be meeting lots of other parents, etc in the next few years.) let us know what you decide!

What about [name]Milly[/name]/[name]Millie[/name]? It would be a nod to your former name ([name]Mills[/name]), and if it feels too short, can be a nickname for lots of nice names: [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Milena[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], etc.

I think [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is the best option too, and I love the nn [name]Eliza[/name]
