changing my name

I’m 35 and always thought my name [name_f]SUSAN[/name_f] made me sound at least 10 years older than I am. I want something a little younger and more unusual, but a name that will still be taken seriously as I get older. Note: I’m a creative type.

My middle name is [name_f]ELIZABETH[/name_f], which is decent. Last name is [name_f]RANE[/name_f].

Some names I am considering:

[name_f]SANA[/name_f] (not my fav but at least it keeps the S?)
[name_f]ELIZA[/name_f]
[name_f]ELIZ[/name_f]
EZA
[name_f]ELONA[/name_f]
[name_f]OLENA[/name_f]
[name_f]ELLA[/name_f] (too cute maybe)
[name_f]LANA[/name_f]
[name_f]LENA[/name_f]
[name_f]LELA[/name_f]
[name_f]LOLA[/name_f]
[name_f]GIA[/name_f]
[name_u]JAE[/name_u]
[name_f]NOVA[/name_f]

I’m leaning toward:

[name_f]SANA[/name_f] [name_f]ELIZ[/name_f] [name_f]RANE[/name_f]
[name_f]ELIZABETH[/name_f] [name_f]LANA[/name_f] [name_f]RANE[/name_f]

ALSO, are there any nicknames for [name_f]SUSAN[/name_f] that sound young/cool?

Thanks!

I think [name_f]Sana[/name_f] is a really cool name! I would go for it. [name_f]Sana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rane[/name_f] sounds good to me, but if you don’t want to keep your middle name, here are some combinations you could use-

[name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]*
[name_f]Lizbeth[/name_f] [name_f]Sana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]Jae[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] [name_u]Jae[/name_u]/ [name_u]Jae[/name_u] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]
[name_f]Sara[/name_f] [name_f]Lizbeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Nova[/name_f] [name_f]Lizbeth[/name_f]*
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Eliz[/name_f]/ [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Jae[/name_u]
[name_f]Gia[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]*
[name_f]Gia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/ [name_f]Gia[/name_f] [name_f]Lizbeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_u]Jae[/name_u]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Sana[/name_f]*/ [name_f]Sara[/name_f]

The one’s I starred are the one’s I like the most. I also like one of your choices, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Lana[/name_f]. And, if [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is too childish for you, there is also [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] or [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. I hope I helped!

I really appreciate getting an outside perspective. Your * choices are in line with what i’m thinking. Good to know I’m not too far off
Thanks so much!

Why don’t you start by going by your middle name? I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] sounds great! The ones I know are young and pretty!

Why is this here? This is the writing forum O_o

Of your ideas I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] the best, with [name_f]Lana[/name_f] being one of my guilty pleasures. If you go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], since it was originally a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (your middle name) you could use it that way. Incidentally, I actually like the name [name_f]Susan[/name_f] (along with several other names often dismissed as being too “dated”); I understand how you think it makes you sound older than you are, but I also think that “older” names (especially the more classic/established ones) can be “retro-chic” when on someone younger than from the name’s prime generation. (When someone asks about such a name for a child I usually also say a benefit is that it would be familiar yet probably the only one in his/her class.) I can’t think of any other obvious nicknames that make [name_f]Susan[/name_f] sound younger other than [name_f]Susie[/name_f] and the like which might be on the childish side for your liking though.

My personal vote is for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (which sounds more “creative” than [name_f]Susan[/name_f] while also not too outlandish and can be taken seriously), which as I said you could use as a nickname if you want to keep your full name the same. You could also explore other nicknames for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (although I do like the retro style, I think that a middle name or nickname that’s more current is nice to have so you have options if like you the name feels like it’s too old).

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate your input and will most likely use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] since it gets widespread support. Best!

[name_f]Sookie[/name_f] is a Southern nn for [name_f]Susan[/name_f]. (if you don’t mind the TrueBlood connotation)

Great idea, and a legal name change wouldn’t be necessary with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or its nicknames (which if you were to do at your age you’d probably have many records to update and/or explain down the road).

[name_f]Sukie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sookie[/name_f] is a nickname for [name_f]Susan[/name_f].

But I also love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]…
