[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
I’ve been thinking about changing my name for a while now. I don’t like how it sounds as I think it is too harsh and it doesn’t fit me at all. I also find that people struggle to spell and pronounce it. I pretty much only use my nickname, but I end up being called by my full name in class, doctors etc. Which drives me crazy & often leads to me not responding.
I don’t particularly like my nickname but it’s okay & im used to it. I just struggle to picture an adult with it (I’m 20).
So currently I’m [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u].
My options are: [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u] ([name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is my nickname anyway) or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u]. I really like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], i can still be called [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
I would like to get it changed legally. However, my dad loves my name. He really wanted me to be called [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] so much that my mum didn’t get a say. I’m hoping that keeping [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (his mums name) will be enough for him.
I’m studying journalism at the moment & I really like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u] as a byline too, I think it sounds more professional than [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u].
What do you all think? [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] or just keep it as [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]?
Thank you!
My choice is [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], you can keep your nickname and as a full name it has a classic sound and yes it sounds more professional than [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] also has a good flow with your middle and surname. If you want another suggestion, I like [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u] with nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a lovely name, but if you struggle to like it, well then, you should change it. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is a great name as well! I agree that [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u] is sounds fantastic, on it’s own and as a byline. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] seems to be a name you love, so I think you should go for that!
Well if you just go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] anyways I don’t see the big deal. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] looks cute. I also love [name_f]Elowen[/name_f].
If you really don’t feel satisfied about your name, I would agree that you should change it. I also understand the pain of hearing your own name called (I am another person looking to change names). A name is, obviously, an important part of everyday life, and keeping it as something that makes you uncomfortable or causes difficulties for others is definitely a problem.
I also think [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is a better choice–it’s beautiful, melodic, and professional-sounding, as you said.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] can also go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] if you really want to, so it’s not a total sacrifice of your other option. You’re still not getting rid of the name your dad likes.
Good luck deciding on your new name!
