I’m not totally in love with either, but I voted for Andromede. [name]Antigone[/name] sounds nice but looks like some kind of bug repellent.
I totally second [name]Lori[/name] [name]Johnson[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Anastasia[/name]!
the only reason why i can’t go with [name]Anastasia[/name] is because it’s a good friend’s kids name and that would be weird.
[name]Antigone[/name] is discussed relatively frequently on these boards, and the consensus is always a) it will be pronounced anti-gone and b) even though the literary [name]Antigone[/name] was a good character, her story was so yucky that no one should have to bear the name in modern times.
I like [name]Andromeda[/name]. Is there a reason you’re choosing the French Andromede?
Other Greek [name]Ana[/name] names–
[name]Anastasia[/name] (most common and most lovely)
Anaxandra (an ancient Greek princess, and an ancient Greek artist)
[name]Anatolia[/name] (a region in modern Turkey)
Anastract
Aniketa (“unconquerable”)
I like [name]Anastasia[/name]. It’s lovely, it’s more intuitive to get to [name]Ana[/name] than your two selections, and it’s far more wearable than both. It is also far more likely to be pronounced correctly.
My vote went to [name]Antigone[/name]. I absolutely love the name especially since I have a friend named this, she goes by Tiggy
I voted for [name]Andromeda[/name], which I quite like. A Greek name with a wonderful history that I added recently to Nameberry is [name]Kasiani[/name] – or [name]Kassiani[/name] or Cassione. You can get to [name]Ana[/name] from there…though sounds like you are close to finalizing your decision! I also love [name]Antonia[/name].
Sorry [name]Anastasia[/name] is out of the running! I love the way [name]Antigone[/name] sounds, but I don’t have enough faith in people to correctly pronounce it! It would probably still work if you were going to keep going by [name]Ana[/name] and just use [name]Antigone[/name] for official reasons. Let us know what you pick!
[name]Andromeda[/name]>Andromede i voted for <
some others:
ANDRONIKA (Ανδ”όνικα): Feminine form of Greek Andronikos, meaning “victory of a man/warrior.”
ANTHEIA or Anthea (Άνθεια): Greek name meaning “flower.” In mythology, this is the name of a goddess of flowers, gardens, love, marshes, and swamps. She was worshiped on Crete.
also: Anais, Antonia, Antolina, Anahita and Anahata, Anysia
Antigone reminds me of that band who sells their cds at Starbucks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antigone_Rising which is a little corny.
I just want to say, as much as I love [name]Antigone[/name]; I have friends with a baby by this name, and people say anti-gone all the time. The parents correct, but a lot of people simply don’t remember. And these are highly educated, upper crust people. So I’m voting Andromede ([name]Andromeda[/name]?). Unless [name]Anastasia[/name]'s on the table, or [name]Roxana[/name]?
I voted for Andromede, although I much prefer [name]Andromeda[/name]. [name]Andromeda[/name] is one of my guilty pleasure names and possible middle names for my next.
I would choose [name]Ana[/name]. The other two just make me roll my eyes. [name]Way[/name] overboard.
I definitely agree that [name]Antigone[/name] and Andromede are too overboard, but perhaps where you’re living it’s fine.
I’d ideally go with [name]Anastasia[/name], but if it’s not an option… Of the two options you listed, Andromede gets my vote, I’d prefer [name]Andromeda[/name] though.
Not a fan of either.
Of the two Andromede because i can’t get my head around a name that is two negative words smushed together.
Andromede is my vote between the two, though I think [name]Ana[/name] is more feasible if you go with [name]Andromeda[/name].
Have you considered [name]Iliana[/name]?
I voted for [name]Andromeda[/name] because [name]Antigone[/name] just looks a little made up, Anti and gone stuck together.
Going against the grain and saying I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Antigone[/name], it’s stunning.
I voted for [name]Antigone[/name]. Andromede/[name]Andromeda[/name] just doesn’t compare to the beauty that is [name]Antigone[/name].
[name]Anastasia[/name] nn. [name]Ana[/name] : Greek meaning resurrection.
I voted for [name]Antigone[/name]. When I hear Andromede, reminds me of the word androgynous.
I voted for [name]Antigone[/name], but I quite liked the suggestion of [name]Iliana[/name]
