All throughout my pregnancy, I haven’t been able to fall in love with any boys’ names. We have our girls’ names ready to go, but nothing for boys! Our leading contender was [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Luke[/name_m]), but it just seems sooooo popular right now. Some other contenders were [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m].
Then, the other day, I stumbled upon our new favorite: [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Toby[/name_u])!!! It has everything we want: it’s not common but everyone has heard it before, it is biblical, it is masculine and strong, it goes with my daughter’s name, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]), and it has an adorable nickname [name_u]Toby[/name_u].
Can you please give me your opinion on this name, good or bad? I want to make sure it’s not late-pregnancy hormones making me switch!!
I much prefer [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] to [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], its unexpected and interesting. [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] is great with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]! And could the nicknames [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] get any cuter? Darling (:
It makes me think of [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] Funke from Arrested Development, but his character is so bizarre and far fetched that I don’t think it tarnishes the name at all. Cute sibset, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u]!
Falling madly in love with that one perfect name that you just barely managed to stumble across is the stuff of dreams!! So congrats on that, and frankly [name_u]Toby[/name_u] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] are more perfect than any other nn set I’ve ever seen and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] totally fits your bill so I have to say run with it and don’t look back!! Ugh now if only I could have the same magic luck lol
I love [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. I like it so much more than [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] (or [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u]) make a great pair!
I am of the same mind! I fell in love with Tobias nn Toby as a 5th grader when Animorphs were all the rage. lol. It doesn’t matter where you meet a name, it matters what journey that name takes you on! Some fall by the wayside, but others are “met” and chosen to frame the most beautiful days and precious people of your life Penelope and now Toby, maybe Lucas, Nolan, Owen… but undoubtedly when he’s born, you’ll know who he is.
To this day, Tobias is still one of my ultimate faves. My husband and I actually prefer Tobiah because it gives it just a tad bit more of that Biblical sound… but really, how could it get any better when a name means “God is good”???
If it has the “it” factor, the I-can-definitely-fall-in-love-with-him-every-day factor, than I’d say you have a winner. Looking forward to seeing your birth announcement!

I like both [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - they give me a similar vibe, though [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] is much softer-sounding, and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] a more unisex nickname than [name_m]Luke[/name_m] (I only know one - a girl). Really, you can’t go wrong with either one!
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] is a winner! It has Biblical strength, vintage charm and a spunky vibe! [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] (aka [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u]) are lovely together!
