A character in my book is named [name_f]Serafina[/name_f] [name_m]Thorne[/name_m]. Obviously, the first name is very frilly and long, but I’ve grown attached to it so I plan on keeping it - I also like how it sounds with the last name. She has wavy dark hair, large brown eyes, and a slim build. Her defining personality traits consist of an extremely high intellect, a sarcastic sense of humor, and commitment issues.
While I want to keep her name, I’m not sure how I should refer to her (I write from third person pov). She’s called a variety of nicknames throughout the book (she’s an FBI agent, so sometimes people even call her just Thorne), and while I do like [name_f]Serafina[/name_f], I feel like it’s pretty long. I’m not opposed to referring to her [name_f]Serafina[/name_f], but I worry that from a reader’s perspective people would tire of hearing something so elaborate over and over again. Should I just refer to her as [name_f]Sera[/name_f] or [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and make it so that this what people call her most of the time outside of work?
Help would be greatly appreciated!
