Character Name?

I am working on a post-apocalyptic story (for more info check out an earlier topic here). One of the main characters is non-binary; they are usually very no-nonsense but would do anything for their friends. Their name is currently [name_u]Nova[/name_u], but someone else told me it sounded too feminine. Does [name_u]Nova[/name_u] work as a name and if not, do you have any other name recommendations?

Nova works as a name! It’s not too feminine, I know girls named [name_u]Nova[/name_u] but I know boys named [name_u]Nova[/name_u] too. I must admit, it’s not what one would think of when they hear “gender-neutral”; names such as [name_u]River[/name_u] come to mind. But I think it works just fine.

I agree! [name_u]Nova[/name_u] isn’t your typical gender neutral name but I just have a really hard time not seeing word names as at least slightly neutral, and I think [name_u]Nova[/name_u] works!

For me it sounds feminine, but that may only Be because I have read Renegades by [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] [name_m]Myer[/name_m]. (that is the name of the main character in that book.) I wish you luck!

I think that [name_u]Nova[/name_u] works for both genders: female, male and nonbinary.

I definitely think [name_u]Nova[/name_u] works as a genderless name (or unisex, I’m not sure exactly what gender you mean by non-binary). It does strike me as feminine but I could easily come around to it on a gender-neutral character. There was a football player a few years ago named Casanova so it can easily work in a masculine sense as well.

How about raven? [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] or lake

I think [name_u]Nova[/name_u] works well for a non-binary character!
