I have an asiatic-inspired kingdom in my High Fantasy series, Karanda, and the people of that nationality have two part surnames, with the first part determined by their gender, Sun- (for boys) and Wen- (for girls), with the second half coming from their family. The former royal family are major players in the story, notably the characters Jacen and Nysa, and I’ve got a few different ideas for what their surnames could be. Which do you prefer?
