Charles + Andrew

[name]Hi[/name] all. I am in desperate need of some help figuring out how to honor both sides of the family. If we have a boy, we definitely want to use the middle name spot to honor family.

Since I’m not a big fan of my father’s first name, I thought we could use the middle names of my father and FIL. [name]Andrew[/name] is my father’s mn, and [name]Charles[/name] [name]Bradley[/name] are the middle names of my FIL. Is there a way to combine them or to honor both of them in this spot?

I would use your two favorites from the three names: I love [name]Andrew[/name] [name]Charles[/name], for example.

What about 2 middle names? That’s all I can think of to do.

I love both [name]Andrew[/name] and [name]Charles[/name]! You could use a combination or just choose to honor one family member at a time. [name]How[/name] about:

[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Charles[/name]

I have thought about giving two middle names, especially because my FIL has two middle names. I’m just not sure though. It seems like a lot of name for such a little guy.

Here’s another question to throw out there?

[name]How[/name] do you decide who to honor (should we choose one or the other)? And how do you deal with not hurting the feelings of others?

That is a tough one! If you haven’t honored your father with your other children, then you could honor him with the new baby, as the baby will have your FIL’s last name.

Or, how about picking the name based on the ABC initials?

[name]Charles[/name] + [name]Andrew[/name] = [name]Chandler[/name]?

“Ch” from [name]Charles[/name], “and” from [name]Andrew[/name], “le” from [name]Charles[/name], “r” from [name]Andrew[/name]. The letters are even in order.

What about [name]Anders[/name]? It’s a valid name (Scandinavian form of [name]Andrew[/name]) and [name]Charles[/name] & [name]Andrew[/name] have similar meanings (freeman & manly respectively).

And I think it’s nice that it honors your father a bit more. Since your husband’s father already has several grandkids I doubt he’s expecting honoring on the 4th (or more!), so I’m sure anything would be much appreciated.

I definitely like what you are trying to do. I am just not a fan of the name [name]Chandler[/name]. I can’t help put picture [name]Chandler[/name] from Friends (which is a show I can’t stand due to my older sister’s obsession with it).

It is MUCH better than my Darling Husband’s suggestion of Drewles (said like “drools”). He is so helpful.
