Charlotte vs Caroline vs?

Has [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] become too popular? I’m from [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] and don’t hear it much…but not sure if that’ll change when she gets to school. My husband loves the nickname [name_u]Charley[/name_u]. A second option is [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], just not sure I love it as much. Any other suggestions? I want something elegant, classic and regal…but not overly traditional. My other children are [name_u]Bradley[/name_u] and [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]. Thanks!

Both are gorgeous! I adore [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], personally, but for some reason [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] always brings to mind the horrid [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] Bingley. I like [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] a little bit more (care-oh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-nah, not [name_f]LINE[/name_f]-ah). I love the nns [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Cara[/name_f], though.

With [name_u]Bradley[/name_u] and [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], I think either would go just fine, but I do like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] better with her brothers.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is quite popular–in the top 10–but now the average is that there’s about 1 [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] per grade, anyhow, and popularity isn’t what it once was by a long shot. I would still name my daughter [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] in a heartbeat, if given the opportunity, but I don’t care about popularity quite like most Berries seem to. The best part about [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is her versatility–she could be [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]/[name_u]Charley[/name_u], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Char[/name_f], [name_f]Lotte[/name_f] (LOT-teh), [name_f]Carly[/name_f], even [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. There’s a nickname for each personality type! Plus, the nns help it not seem too common. I’ve only met one little [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] that I can think of, and she was about 9 at the time that I met her. I do know a family a state away from me who has a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], but she goes by one of her middles, [name_f]Grace[/name_f].

Good luck!

I like both names a lot! [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is gorgeous, timeless, and universally well-loved. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is pretty much the same. If I had to choose a personal favorite, it would be [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], but like you said, it’s very popular. However, given the fact that you have a nickname picked out, it wouldn’t be much of an issue

I personally wouldn’t use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] due to its popularity, but I think it’s a very lovely name, and I love the nickname [name_u]Charley[/name_u]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]!

I actually don’t know any Charlottes other than of the [name_f]Princess[/name_f] of G.B.by media.
It was my great grandmother’s name.
I do like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] very much. So hard to choose. A PP has pointed out the ration is much less now even if it is Top Ten. Perhaps try lots of scenarios -If there were >1 in her class, one next door. Or just three or four in her life.
I wish there was method for determining the probability of meeting children with the same name. I love the name [name_f]Andromache[/name_f] and a friend said “Oh [name_f]Viv[/name_f] has one in her literature class.” I think that would be so much worse-being the 'other [name_f]Andromache[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Its a beautiful name.

I prefer [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], and if you are concerned about popularity, I think this would help rule [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] out. In my opinion, [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is more classic and sophisticated.

I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is very pretty, and since you have kids already and don’t know any little Charlottes, I say go for it.

You can look on the Social Security website to see the percentage of babies with a given name. Then you can look at the list from your birth year and find a name with similar percentage to get a feel for the popularity. So [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] was given to .58% percent of babies. If you were born in 1980, that would be similar to the popularity of [name_u]Andrea[/name_u]. Popular Baby Names
