My wife and I have been thinking about the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for the last few months. Problem is, our last name is [name_m]Webb[/name_m]. Most people have heard of or read [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m] these days. We like the name, but are worried about the literary reference. Thoughts?
I immediately thought of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m], and I’m not even very familiar with the book. That may not necessarily be a problem for you, but something to bear in mind - there might be comments! Also, with the birth of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] recently, the name is expected to rise in popularity, if that bothers you. It is lovely, though.
i wouldn’t do it. Its just such a well known book, and not that there is a bad association with the name at all, but she will have to live a life of people commenting on it. I can imagine it would get old really fast.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a great name though.
Agree with this, it would get old fast ![]()
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is beautiful but it would strike me as an odd choice given your last name. Sorry
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_m]Webb[/name_m] does look lovely though. If you truly have your heart set on [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], just embrace it and brace yourself for lots of comments/questions!
I don’t see an issue with it. The book certainly isn’t a negative association. I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_m]Webb[/name_m] is sweet.
Please don’t. Plus, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is insanely popular.
I would use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] as the middle name.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a beautiful name. However, I do believe that it is too close to the book title and it is a very well-known book. I would not use it, personally.
If you do go for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], maybe choose a middle name starting with S, so you end up with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] S. [name_m]Webb[/name_m]. You know, go the whole way!
I immediately thought of the book, too. I have a lot of fondness for the book, but I agree that the comments would get old very quickly.
I don’t think I would want to be called [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_m]Webb[/name_m], [name_f]Every[/name_f] new person I meet will definitely have a comment on it. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a very pretty name but there are tons of other beautiful names that would go better with your surname without causing your daughter a lifetime of eye rolls. maybe [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] as a middle?
I’m sorry, it’s not usable. Maybe as a middle?
Too close to the book
Yes, I think it is wrong. That would get old very fast for the poor girl!
I don’t think it would be a huge deal honestly. People would definitely comment on it, but it’s not like the worst thing she could be teased about.
Also, not to be rude, but people who are commenting on the popularity - really? He didn’t ask about that. Not everyone finds the popularity of a name to be important.
I would find it slightly interesting, but I wouldn’t say anything. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a nice name. If you like it enough to overlook your last name, then I wouldn’t judge you. You could even call it a literary namesake.
I definitely wouldn’t use it and would raise my eyebrows if I heard it [name_m]IRL[/name_m].
I’d put [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] in the middle, or choose an alternative like [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Charla[/name_f], etc.
It’s kinda wrong, sorry!
You ask if it’s wrong…Well, if my surname is [name_m]DRAKE[/name_m] should I call my child [name_u]Francis[/name_u] ?
